We are talking about Mexico... No matter who's fault it is or even if you damage a street sign, you could be held in jail until you come up with the money (hard to do if you are in jail). Having Mexican liability insurance keeps you out of jail or having to come up with wads of money. It's only about 20 dollars for one day and 10 dollars a day there after.

 

Perfect! I can't believe I've been going there for years and didn't know that was there!

Jen the race is Friday! Bikes start at 6 am trucks and buggies at about 10. You can still catch them on their way back into town 1st bike will probably be at the finish around 9 or 10 pm!! 1st truck probably at midnight

 

IS any of it gonna be on TV to watch?? Sorry- never have kept up with the Baja or any of the races. Only took interest cuz I have a truck now

 

Negative buddy! Only Mexican news broadcast the race however you can follow online via race-dezert and off-road.com both do live updates with pics

 

They added another hour to the gap between the last bike/quad and first full size (Trophy Truck) racer... Expect them to begin about 11:30 am Friday... 4 hours after the last quad takes off.

 

About a month or two after the race, there usually is a show on one of the cable channels of the race. Netflix 'Dust To Glory' to get a taste of the action... a great film about the Baja 1000 that came out about 6 years ago.

 

SCORE runs 4 races in Baja... March: San Felipe 250; June: Baja 500; Sept.: Challange of the Champions (San Felipe); November: Baja 1000.

The September race was new for Baja this year, as it usually is the Primm race in Nevada... but issues with the insurance company forced SCORE to move the race to Baja. Who knows about next year?!

Besides SCORE, other Mexican organizations now run races in Baja (CODE, etc.)

 

Sweet. Thanks, David. I saw 'Dust to Glory' for the first time a few weeks back. It had me hooked right from the start; loved watching the VWs go at it. Those things can really take a pounding.

 

Im not gonna drive down Friday by myself I don't know the way or speak Spanish.. and I don't know how I'd find you guys out there... maybe next time

 

They did the same last year and for the last baja 500

For last Baja 1000, NBC did a 1hr show about the race, like 2 or 3 months after the race. Spike tv also did a show as well.

Primm race in not on 2012 schedule.

Next time is June, Baja 500. See you there.

You guys are so lucky to be able to be there during one of the biggest off roading events of the year. I hope you guys have a blast. I really need to get my passport situation settled.

 

Sure local news is big on the races... The San Diego TV news helicopters (Sky 10) used to go down and film the start for the evening news... The Internet has taken over...
