    Would you do it?

I finally got a Tacoma after being a Silverado guy for 10+ years which I would of never even dreamed of attempting something like this. But I think this little truck has what it takes to make it! What are the chances to finish the race let alone win in stock mini? Let me know your thoughts as I'm not finding much on this.

Some clarification: i ment stock in that it meets all safety criteria etc as per the rules.

    In a 2016 I would.

Anything less would be uncivilized and disastrous.

Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
    Stock? You can't.

My plan is to eventually get to that point, but def not stock. When it is not a Daily Driver anymore it will be easier to work on it for more than weekends haha. So i still have a few years but I WILL enter a baja event 500 probably (unless you have to work your way up to that, then I will do so) but it wont be win...itll be to survive the race in 1 piece haha

As far as suspension setup is concerned it is possible. But you cannot drive a stock vehicle off the lot and onto a Baja 1000 race course. Nor can you throw a thousand dollars worth of lights onto it and expect to get a number in the lower-end classes.

Considering its tough to do in a purpose built car.... no.
We have raced the baja 500 and 1000 in our class1 and didn't even finish last year. I think the stats I heard was only 60% of the field finished.....
So if purpose built race cars have a tough time.....I doubt it lol

Maybe if you do the race at 10-15mph...

And? The rest of the guys in your class won't be driving million dollar trophy trucks pulling travel measured in feet with 900 horse power.

I'd say one of the most depressing parts of offroad racing is the fact everyone watches the unlimited classes and rubs it off without paying love to the little guys getting by in their smaller rides just 'cause there's less horse power.

Agreed. I wish they would televise more of the other classes when they do show the races on TV.

It really chokes the sport unfortunately. Shrinking lower end classes for various reasons...

@OP ultimately: you need to look into the tons of safety gear you'd have to put onto that stock Tacoma to get it into Baja. It's expensive, it's often custom, and, if you're cool cutting that much clean interior up... Yowza.

The smaller classes are more fun, but just be realistic in preparation. Breaking down is no fun., no matter what class you're in. You still need a cage, fire suppression, pumpers, GPS, recovery gear, etc....

"Haul ass" i suppose is relative lol. Though anything over 40 mph in a stock suspension bug you can count me out haha

If meeting all previous safety requirements I could see it. The truck is a good size and has plenty of pep. Only issue would be the same issue across all classes.....luck. baja is unforgiving.I could see a local Bitd or snore race over the baja 1k

I still wouldn't buy a $35-40k dollar truck with new car smell still in it and tear out the interior for a roll cage, so no I wouldn't race a 2016 at Baja.

But if I had an internal cage and assorted safety gear in my truck along with an alternate ride for the week? I'd be racing it right now, yup.
