Do any bumper manufactures state "For off road use only" on there products? If they are not legal in this state, then the above phrase gets the manufacture off the hook for the most part.

There are hundreds of aftermarket parts that say for off road use only, but people take the chances running it on the street.

I don't think they violate the "spirit of the law." If anyone wanted to get you, they'd be hard pressed to get you on this, but chances are they could find bigger violations to focus on. I just unbolted the flimsy plastic stocker and put this one on mine:

some of this, a little of that
It varies from state to state. Not sure about CA, but you need 4.5" of vertical height in UT. Had a buddy that couldn't pass state inspection with tube bumpers on his truck.

50 state illegal. but! Localities and states don't always hold up federal law so you'll have to check your local statutes. I have not found a state in 10 years that doesn't have a searchable statute database.

Can you please site the Federal code that says what bumpers are illegal?

It's also illegal to drive barefoot in California........ but I could never find a law that prohibits it. (Just an example, I don't drive barefoot, but probably would if at a beach)

i mean dot calls it illegal.. think...

btw off topic, but no state has a barefoot driving law... urban legend.. i almost always drive barefoot... slippers we all wear in hawaii are too dangerous to drive in and easy to slip off.

im not that interested in finding it but if i do i'll post it... any passenger car can not modify the front bumper...nor the exhaust, air bags etc... but it'd have to be a federal agency to care... just like pot in alaska

I agree, plus they are uggggleeeeeee!!!!300ft Awesome!!!! "Baja" bumpers, to me, just look goofy and cheep! Bumper laws are there for your safety and to protect any car you may come in contact with.

Go ahead and put the bumper on but don't be surprised if you get ticketed for it. If they may right you a ticket, it's up to you to protest. If you don't protest and pay the fine, they win. I got a ticket for having "illegal mudflaps" about 10 years ago. When I protested it, the judge asked me what "illegal mudflaps" meant. I told him they were OEM mudflaps on the truck and didn't understand why I was ticketed. They dismissed the ticket but I still had to pay court fees.
