I know you can’t say for sure, but how much does a repair typically cost?

I'm not lighting expert but I've had both and bought the BD a second time.
That's not to say I didn't like the DD. However, to my personal taste, the BD have a more vivid color yellow, I prefer their look and size and they are endurance tested!

At most, it will cost 50% of whatever light you have if the whole light was in need of repair.
    Best,

@Baja Designs If I buy them from Amazon or another 3rd party website, do you guys still warranty them if something goes wrong? Does that count as proof of purchase or do you have to buy them directly from BD?

I really can't compare as I only have DD, but I have SS3 sport and pro and SS2 sport and am pleased with them.

I did the opposite as what you are planning though. Sport combo for ditch lights, as I really use them for the ditch and not as extra driving lights, so they don't need to be too bright to see what I want to see and they aren't blinding to anyone else around. For fogs I went pros as I want to see as much as possible in front of me while driving at highway speeds in reduced visibility conditions.

The SS2s are my chase lights and I went with amber spots.

@Conquistadors I love rigid but they don’t offer a fog light that is worth it to me for the Tacoma. They have the Trd Pro version but they are so small for $400-$600. Id rather spend a little less and get some bigger ones. Also I just want to keep the ditch and fogs the same, so if I am getting bigger ones for the fogs. Might as well get the same brand for ditch lights. I hadn’t considered the rigid but after looking at the output of the Trd Pro version, they are only like 1100-2000 linens and the price is crazy.

@kodiakisland I have a 32 inch hidden light bar and a 42 inch on my Prinsu rack. I use those for the open road at night when nobody is out. I just want the fogs and ditch lights for snow or fog. I’d probably turn both on when visibility is bad. I’ll use the fogs as night time driving lights so I want the opposite so I don’t blind people too bad .:D

As long as you are using the fogs in reduced visibility and have them aimed correctly, the SS3 pro fog pattern will not be a problem for other drivers. It has a very definite cutoff and is less blinding than most of the trucks with leveling kits driving around. Either way, I think you'd be happy with the DD.

I can’t say anything bad about DD, as I’ve never owned their products. That being said, and as you can see from this thread, Baja Designs customer service is simply outstanding.

I had BD Squadron SAE’s on my ’18 Taco and loved them. So much so, I ordered another set for my ‘22 Taco, even though they were back ordered. Before Thanksgiving, BD called me directly, and asked if I wanted the original Squadron SAE’s I ordered, or if I was willing to wait for the new model in January ‘23. They also said that if I took the originals, I could send them back in for the upgrade later.

BD taking the time to reach out and provide me with options goes a very long way with me. Coupled with excellent quality and performance of their products, BD has earned my business without fail. Earning and keeping a customers trust makes for a long a profitable business.

I have the DD for fogs and ditch, both are awesome, the fogs have the backlit in them which is cool, if I run the fogs at night, I do get flashed a
bit from oncoming traffic, so I normally do not have them on full power :) Definitely bright enough. Both my sons have the BD and they do seem a
bit better in brightness and quality, but by no means are the DD not quality made, they are great and a little cheaper ;)

I'm not BD, but we've been a BD reseller for years. As long as BD has a dealer record of that company they'll honor the warranty. They've taken care of every single one of our customers who have ever had a problem. BD recently scrubbed their Amazon dealer list as well so a purchase from there would likely qualify as well no problem (assuming you actually receive genuine BD gear lol). That said, BD or us here at Hotshot Offroad would rather you don't purchase via Amazon as we'd rather not feed nearly 20% of the proceeds to Amazon if we can help it...

Link me. I'll at least tell you if you should expect to receive a legitimate product if you order. I get it - $ is $. That said, we follow MAP requirements so there "shouldn't" be anyone cheaper out there. Also, take into account that we won't charge you sales tax if you order through our site so that might help tighten the gap as well.

Not at all suprised. BD went through all my questions I could pm them here on the forum, then added a sweet coupon when I first ordered. They took my lights back and repaired them when I was too ham-fisted changing a lens - and I've gotten nothing but amazing service everytime I talk to Brandon or anyone else there.

Not only does BD ruin you because their lights are amazing and serviceable, but their people actually are helpful and know what they are talking about.

Ship from and sold by Amazon. I anticipate it to be a legit product, and I couldn't even sniff that price. Don't expect the wide cornering pattern to be a good light in truly foggy/snowy conditions, but they absolutely are a good all-arounder offroad light.

I am definitely probably going with Baja Design. After all this talk of them having great service, I can’t say no to that.

@memario1214 Thanks for checking. What is the best lense for snow and fog when you put them in as fogs?

Baja unfortunately doesn't make a fog/snow light that I can recommend. Far too much uplight which leads to the Star Trek space flight sensation during snow storms. They have an SAE pattern squadron, but output still isn't great. If that's your use case I would recommend you look at Diode Dynamics or Morimoto. BD did tease a new SAE light here a month or so ago that is intriguing.

All said, unless you are in the snow and fog often (and/or want to run your fog lights on the street) go with the BD in a wide cornering pattern. That's what you linked me. When the weather is bad they won't be perfect, but they'll still provide some edge obstacle/reflector identification.

@memario1214 so they aren’t bad? They should be way better than my white light bars? You know when you see a 4runner or Tacoma on the other side of the freeway and they are shining bright like diamond. Will these do that? Thanks for the help!
