I want to put them on a triumph Tiger 800, another question would be if there is a specific switch needed to turn on the different modes for the lp4? I might just get the squadrons!

No specific switch needed. The harness we sell features a simple on/off switch. The lead for amber backlit left bare so that use can use our included components to tie into running/parking lights, or alternative solutions you may use (wire into switch, etc.)

So I took my flir camera to check my truck wiring and found something interesting. (It was a cold day)

    FLIR0006.jpg

This is my roof rack after being on for a few minutes. You can tell that the two pairs of lights on either end are the 80 watt XL80s and then it's the 40 watt XL Pros and in the very middle it's the 60 watt XL Lasers. Each puts out a corresponding temperature.

None of them get super hot, it's just interesting to actually see the 80 watt lights putting out more heat than the 40 watt lights. Exactly as you'd expect to see.

@Baja Designs , Curious if some squadron sports could be run as strobes (via a controller and relays). Any concern with the quick on/off/on/off flashing on the lights leds and/or circuitry?

Anecdote of one: I use my squadrons (and RTL) as strobes / flashers via my switchpro a fair amount and don't see any sort of negative to it so far. Had them a few years now.

Thanks for the reply! Do you know if a standard automotive relay cycles quick enough to strobe based on the signal from a controller, or if you have a specific strobe relay? I don't know my relays. Or if there even is such a thing. Haven't done too much googling yet. Just thought about while looking into purchasing some BD ambers for my bumper.

Switchpro / SPOD have a strobe function built into their controller. IDK about a mechanical relay.

Demo of switchpro (pre squadrons, but its the same for them now). All BD except the front bar.

Very nice. I was thinking all white BDs originally, but being double duty with strobe function the Amber is sounding better and better.

Helping with offroad races and general roadside duty, the white side lights and the white/amber chase bar come in clutch. Unless you are right up on me, I look like one of those DOT trucks.

A standard relay will burn out if it is used as a strobe. It'll have an audible "chatter" and will eventually fail.

No concerns here. Many Switch.Pros and sPOD users routinely enjoy this feature. Those would be the two units I recommend, having used both and knowing the quality. There are cheap flasher modules available, or even cheap switch units, but I cannot recommend any based on personal use.

Thanks for the input. This is the kind of information I was looking for. I definitely wouldn't be using them much. I'm in a Search and Rescue unit and in the past year I've probably used my current strobes for less than 24 hours total. Just thinking if I'm wiring in some driving lights, why not add another relay to make them strobe. Looks like a solid state relay is about 4-5 times as expensive, but still only $20-25.
