The right hand diagram is how a lot of folks run the "raptor lights" as well. Worth noting. Although I tapped my parking light wire for mine when I had them. The DRL bulb dims, and the parking light bulb comes on when you move the headlight knob to either of the last 2 settings on my 2nd gen.

When my S8 shows up sometime soon, that's the same circuit I am tapping into for the backlight.

I guess I also should have clarified that that wiring diagram is for the LED DRL models only. And yes if you want the backlighting to come on with the headlights/parking lights you can tap the parking light circuit instead of the DRL circuit. But that's if you do not have the LED DRLs.

Considering XL80s as ditch lights for the second gen Tacoma. Anyone know if the XL80 will clear the hood when mounted to CBI ditch lights?

    For reference:
Squadron Pros clear with no issues when the mount is angled back. Need to be careful when the squadrons are mounted with the bracket angled forward. Rigids you would need to be careful as well.

100%, I swapped to amber lenses and not as bad but they def piss people off. Trucker drivers especially. I will swap out to the SAE ones for the fog location when it comes out.

I've got XL80s on the SDHQ brackets, it's a great setup with plenty of close/mid lighting, they clear the hood just fine. I think the SDHQ mounts are pretty low compared to most however.

Something else to consider is the sturdiness of the mounts with the larger lights/longer mounting arm; even though the SDHQ brackets are built more robustly, and have a rubber vibration dampener in contact with the the hood, I still notice some "jouncing" of the light beam.

Wonder if there is a difference between hood mounted brackets and fender mounted in terms of lights....

    Any photos of your setup?

    SAE Lighting - Update

Many people have heard information from myself and others at BD regarding SAE approved lighting. We are NOT releasing these until 2019 and can only share very few details until then. Expect more information in the New Year...

    - Squadron Series housing
    - Lights will be sold with or without Vehicle Specific Kits
    - The goal is to have the pair of lights sell for under $300
    - No information at this time on adapting SAE approved lens and optics to older Squadron Series Lights

Thanks for all of the interest. More details including an expected release date will be posted in the New Year :)

Oops the SDHQ ones are hood mounted, I was thinking of if the lights cleared the windshield. Sorry about that, it had been a long week at work.
That's a very good point about the fender mounted brackets; though most of the fender mounted brackets look like they'd be more vibration prone.

I don't have any pics right now (I've got a 2.5nd gen), but this dude has the XL80s + SDHQ mounts on a 3rd gen. The mounts look to be very very similar:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tubbsislands-mid-travel-glamper-delux-lumens-build.460533/

I think it's the best looking and performing setup IMO.

@Baja Designs What is the amp draw for just the backlighting on an S8? I searched all over this forum since I remember it got posted once, but I couldn't find it for the life of me. Rigging up a 40" bar this weekend and wanna make sure I keep all my fuses in tact. Was planning on tapping into to my marker light wire.

Out of curiosity, does anyone use the official BD light covers?

I have a full set to cover my sampler of lights (S2, Squadron, and XL) but they latch on so damn hard I end up tweaking the light's aiming pulling them off. :(
I guess it's better than falling off easily, but still...

Do they ease up after a few clips on and off, or am I missing some kind of trick? I was hoping that they'd be relatively easy such that I could have them covered while my truck is doing boring commuter stuff but yank them off when needed.

I’ve got the covers on my Squadrons to keep them legal here in BC. Yes they go on tight, and if it’s cold they can be tough to get off. Usually I go top to bottom and they come off ok. Haven’t had to re-aim yet.

I bought pair of squadron sports combo with wiring harness. Is there an adaptor so I can plug these lights directly into my 2011 tacoma and use the OEM fog light switch? They’re going on an aftermarket bumper.

Installed the black Friday 30" S8 today using caliraised behind the grill brackets. Wired it up to my switch pro, including putting the amber back lights on a switch (whether it lives there forever is to be determined). Very happy with it.

It is way brighter than this photo let's on as I had to take a picture at an angle or else my camera was blinded.

I just installed my Black Friday lights today too! How did you wire the back lights? To a button on the switch pro or to come on with low beams?

Here’s a final installed pic of my two S8 light bars from the Black Friday sale. Had to make some custom brackets. Mocked it up this afternoon and then painted after and just now final mounted them. Have to rig the harnesses I bought so I hope to have them all wired up tomorrow. Will need to cut out the prinsu fairing until I can make a new one that is taller. Still have to figure out how I want to hook up the amber lights. That may be a later project.
