tbh running a combo is not that bad, thats what i run and its useful at speed going over the mountain passes and spotting deer on the shoulders out pretty far

all depends what you using them mainly for

I use mine majority of the time to spot for deer just because I live in the boonies. Otherwise, it's for driving on the beach in the mist/fog or in the dark.

I think combo or WC are my two options. I may just get both lenses for the flexibility.

One of the best parts about Baja Designs lights right there.

Oh yeah combos are great because it's the best of both worlds but like I said, a little wasted if you have the spot portion cocked off-axis at like 30 degrees.

I posted up my setup in here before but...

You can see the S2's up in the ditch light mounts are pretty strongly angled outwards, I use those for "fill" and they work great. A little bit of spill onto the hood but nothing crazy.
Then up front I've got Squadrons in Amber combo- forward facing I tend to use those as dust/inclement weather lights.
Between the Squadrons I have XL spots, which are basically an extra set of hi-beams but with a bit more centralized throw.

Usually I don't roll around with all of it on, I have either the XL and S2 set up on, or only the Squadrons.

I run this setup because I'm kinda crazy and the thought of lumens being wasted with a behind the grille mounting of a light bar was too much to bear.

Oh and I have one more S2 Sport on the way, amber wide cornering, as a rear mount chase light. :D

Good day sir, from one BD addict to another..

I've got Squadron Sport Amber Combos in the fog pockets and Squadron Pro with Spot on the Ditch Brackets.
Changed them around a bit between spot and combo lenses and found the spot has better throw while the sports cover the infield.

I would recommend Combos for ditch lights on their own.

I also have some more BD goodies sitting on the workbench waiting for nice weather..

I may be new to BD, but wouldn't a Squadron Pro Spot throw alot farther than a Squadron Sport Combo anyways? Different patterns andand differ output power?

I think I've settle on Sport Combos on my ditch brackets and then I'll buy some WC lenses to change it up if I want.

Yep, I switched between Sport/Combo+Pro/Combo and Sport/Combo+Pro/Spot.. back and forth switchy-switch.. that's all the fun when you have BD.

I've had good luck running amber Squadron Sport W/Cs in the fog pockets as they do the intended purpose and are ok-ish on the streets in UT whiteouts like last night, then amber Pro Combos in the bumper for offroad use. Then a white combo S8 on the roof, because I am afraid of the dark and can see WAAAAAAAY out in the distance when I'm trying to do my best BJ Baldwin impersonation.

Red thingys are Xbull traction boards (since replaced with MaxTrax)

The X-wing is a UHF radio antenna of sorts...

Sorry, I was talking about the tall red thing. Not the orange traction boards.

I was thinking that's what the x-wing was but I hadn't seen one before. I just passed my technician test on Saturday so I'm looking at all the ham stuffs now.

My friend calls the dune whip "the space probe" when I have it in green. Has like 20 colors I can cycle through.

Lost as balls in the Wendover desert taking a "shortcut". We ended up having to go down a wash and sneaking under that railroad bridge that was my truck + 4 inches tall. Had to collapse the whip and HAM antennas to squeak under.

Ok so other than waiting on your SAE fog lights @Baja Designs , I'm planning on upgrading my crappy Rigid ditch lights. I really want to go all out and get the XL80 for forward projection and use S2's as the "ditch" light.

So my question is, I don't see "spot" lenses for the XL80s on your website. But I do see Spot for just the XL Pros and Sports. Is there a reason you don't list the XL80 with a spot lens? And before you recommend it, I can't afford the XL Laser....no matter how much I want it.

Considering the cost of a pair of XL80s, why not go for an S8?

I do plan to pick up a set of S2s for ditch purposes. That is the one gap in my lighting setup between my S2s on the side and my spaceship lighting up front.

I have an S8. I also have a 30" Rigid light bar up front. I have plenty of near field lighting up front. Thats why I want to be able to reach out and touch someone with my A pillar lights.

Got it. My 40" S8 in white combo will seriously light up stop signs a good 3/8 mile down the road with the middle spot lenses. Maybe just change the filters to suit your needs then toss some S2s on the ditch mounts?

It looks like they market their replacement lenses towards the entire XL series. I don't see why it wouldn't fit the XL80. Might just be an oversight on their website to offer the XL80 with the spot lens.

@Rome604 I offered once, but if you want me to get my 6 keychain laser pointers and some tin foil, I'm sure we could rig you up some laser lighting.
