I don't think Bros can conceptualize not being seen intentionally.

As of now, we are planning on offering upgrade options for Squadrons. It'll be more involved than a lens swap but customers can send the lights to BD and have the internals switched. I'll be posting more details on this as summer gets closer

    Thanks!

I had planned to just wait on the SAE to hit the market, but I have an aftermarket bumper on order and the vendor extended a deal on a set of the current squadron sports that I couldn’t pass up.

The XL80 isn't available in Spot but the lens could always be changed with the above lens kit. When the XL80 initially came out, the LED had a large crosshatch that created a slight dark spot in the center intensity. It wasn't noticeable in the Wide Cornering and Driving/Combo pattern but was in Spot. We didn't recommend using the XL80 for distance since the XL Pro and XL Racer are available with better usable light.

The LED did see an update which significantly reduced the size of the crosshatch. It filled in the center intensity of the beam but it's not quite as intense as the XL Pro or XL Racer. Those lights are better for long-range distance.

It would be cool to have an XL80/XL Laser hybrid but it's NOT something we can do at this time. Not in the plans

Thank you very much for taking the time to explain that. Makes sense. So what would be the difference between the XL Racer and the Squadron Racer other than pure size and 20% dim-able? I know the projector for the XL is obviously larger but they both have listed the same lumen output. I'm assuming they have the same LED in each light so does the larger projector result in a significant longer distance?

This is the exact reason I love Baja Designs. Not many manufacturers take the time to have a detailed conversation with their customers. Thank you.

My guess is how the reflector manages the light. Lumen output may be the same, but the lux is probably what differs.

Yeah, thats why I was asking the real world difference. Lumen ratings can be very deceiving.

Agreed. Everyone tends to focus on how big that raw lumen number is, but ignores that my 5K lumen squadron sport pair managed to outshine my (allegedly) 20K lumen ebay light bar.

I always enjoy seeing folks try to brag their rough country bars have the same lumens if not more than my bd...yet the light comparison is no where close.

The main difference is size and performance. Both are 40W/4,300 Lumens but there is a noticeable performance difference due to the optic sizing. A Squadron Racer has a 7° Spot and the XL Racer has a 4° Spot. The more focused beam on the XL Racer results in extra distance.

In general, a Squadron Racer offers 40% more distance than a Squadron Pro. Same applies with the XL Racer having 40% more distance than the XL Pro.

Not to rag on RC specifically, but my friend took offense last night when I called his RC light bar "no name ebay bar". Sorry, its branded, but my old $40 ebay bar in the garage was exactly identical.

THAT is good to know for my cheaper peeps that are on the fence about what to get in terms of a reliable cheap one.

Honestly, that $40 bar was the best thing I ever got for my truck. I love my BD stuff, and it works as well as I hoped for the money. But when you have a cheap AF light bar getting banged around the desert wastelands of UT and NV, you are always surprised when you flip the switch and it works at all!

True that man, every time folks ask me if my BD stuff is worth it...night wheeling it pays off plenty at speed. If I wasnt an LT guy though, Im not sure if I could justify a 50 inch light bar.

I feel ya there. One good trip out to the UT desert on a moonless night makes you wanna invest in ALL the BD swag. Below was a relatively moonlit night, and you can still see how dark it is. You can also make out my HIDs, sport fogs, side lights, chase light and dune whip barely making a dent. I've got a set of extra pros and an S8 installed for when the race season kicks off again in April. :taco:

LOL My truck is a visual depiction of BD's lighting diagram. Specifically Zones 1, 3, and 7

Thats some solid coverage...I got zones 1, 2, 3, and 7. Im not sure if I will invest in side fogs although I have considered it for the cargo area. I would love to get a high output 20 inch for spot...but not sure if a 20 inch is worth investing in to reach the spot area.
