I originally ordered an S2 sport to cut into the back bumper next to my plate. My tools however are not at my house, and I had a case of insomnia last night, so tip of the hat to meso, I designed this and printed up a test one. Pay no mind to the crappy hole I drilled, I have that integrated into the design now and will be reprinting this with better materials. What do you think though?

Cant speak for the S1, but this S2 puts out a ton of light. Almost to much for the camera as the center of the image was really blown out hahaha.

I would be curious about theft. Anyone have a 3d printed hitch pod busted off or stolen?

I stopped drilling it because I saw it going sidwards and didn't want it to blow out the print. The final one I am printing the hole right into it

Im hoping to make something similar from a sheet of stainless this summer. I have S1s for ditch lights and they kick out a ton of frigging light. Honestly Id think an S2 would be too much

How are you doing wiring? I was considering going right to the 7-pin for convenience, but having it switched separately would be nice if you're ever in town or around other drivers so not blinding them..

I have it wired to the reverse light right now. I have plans on changing that up in the future, but right now my plate is pretty full with 2 other projects so I can't really put much time to my truck. Once I clear these other two things off my plate, I have lots of plans for this truck :D

To the OP, that is a pretty cool solution, and removeable as well. Nice work!

The S2s are surprisingly bright. I have two of them in cutouts in my Mobtown rear bumper. Admittedly not as cool as a DIY, as I basically selected the option when I ordered it from Mobtown. I do a lot of night driving in the desert where I live (too hot to shoot during the summer months, so I go out at night) and they are great when backing up/busting a Uturn on tight trails.

Here is what they look like with a small aperture setting on the camera at night. Michael Bay style lens flares...

Fired the rabid beaver and just printed the hole myself. Also shortened it up a bit. Pretty happy with how it turned out. The final one I plan on doing with nylon/carbon. Another change I made which isn't pictured here is I radiused the inside behind the light to remove the need to print with supports as well as add more rigidity at the transition in the rear. Everything fits really well. I think the final one I will do thread inserts as well instead of screws and nuts. Heading out on a trip for the next few days so we will see how the PLA holds up in the short term :p

Looks good. Id think your current setup with nyloc nuts would be better in the long run, as opposed to threads directly in the material. But maybe not

Hey @malichite what 3D printer are you using, that print is flawless.

The S1 puts out almost double the light as an S2 sport.

Well that is certainly counter intuitive. Good catch

Yeah one 20w emitter vs two 5w emitters on the S2. S1’s are definitely a better deal.
