Good move David, the gear oil change is a small insurance (even smaller if you can do it yourself, it's really easy). I know someone who'd been camping with his truck through dirt and streams for 4 years, with no maintenance, and found out his front gears, bearings and ball joints all shot, had to be replaced. Good thing he had extended insurance.

 

Hi Art, the service writer is a good guy at my Toyota dealership and gave me some discounts, so it wasn't painful in the wallet at all. I am a good customer (4 Toyotas from them plus countless referals)...

I guess a breather tube up high is called for!??

 

Good stuff - Just pucked up and dropped off Mpletez get his diffs and xfer case changed today - stealer charged him $75.

The 2010 Mission Santa María trip and the 2015 Pole Line Road trip have been the only recent organized 'group 4x4' Baja trips I was part of. Most Baja trips are solo adventures, as we just go when we can and not always with a lot of advanced planning. However, I will announce any as I did before should they come up. Looks like another great trip. Thanks for sharing. As you know, my nose has been pushed into the grindstone or I would have loved to have joined. I was noticing recently that my truck has only added 4k in the last 2 years - that is a crime.

 

Paul, that's not much less than mine, lately! I did a LOT of driving in Baja in 2017 (15,000 miles) for the road log I produced (for Baja Bound Insurance)... The publishing in being worked on now. It is a six-part format, so you can just get the part of Baja you want road details on...

 

There is a possibility I will be going back to Mission Santa María in 2020 with a TV show crew. I will let you know as much as I can!
