Selecting a mild lift (TRD Baja TX Pro + Icon AAL)

Correct, with the front OME shocks (not rear springs). I've seen several threads on the issue, whith different suspecting causes from shock top out to swaybar contact, though not everyone has this issue. One benefit of an OEM (not OME) lift is you know it will work without any issues whatsoever. Without spending too much time searching:

I tried to order the Baja kit from two different dealerships in the past 2 weeks and was told the ptr35-35120 is discontinued(One dealer on ebay was offering for $1269 w/ free shipping for the ptr13-35120). Then I looked at ordering the parts individually through Camelback for roughly $1450 with free shipping..... BTW everything I found indicated that two of the PTR13-35120-AE Bushings and Brackets are needed for mounting the remote reservoirs if ordering the components individually.

After thinking more about it, I was decided to purchase the Pro Suspension ptr13-35150 kit for roughly the same money. Should see that in a couple of weeks depending on how long it is backordered. My 2011 had the OME 885s w/ 1.5 AAL which had a 590#/in spring rate which is close to the Pro Setup, so I went the PRO route instead. I already have the ICON 1.5" progressive for the back and K02's sitting in the garage, just need the TRD kit to put it all together, before I fluid film it for the winter.

Last I heard a few months back there was a stop ship on the Pro kit due to an issue they wanted to correct. (Missing part maybe?). I'm sure it has been corrected by now. The Pro kit has added zinc plating, so it shouldn't have the surface corrosion issues like the Baja, though Fluid Filming definitely couldn't hurt.

 

why pay so much for the pro kit when you get the 6112's for like half the cost and have the almost identical setup. (yes valving is SLIGHTLY different )

 

Like the idea of the matched set. Also prefer the factory style reservoir mounts, boots, and the extra plating on the TRD PRO set up for corrosion resistance.

 

The 6112's are zinc coated like the TRD Pro kit. The springs are slightly softer than the BAJA kit. The benefit to the Pro or Baja kit, is that the additional hardware comes with them. I have the 6112/5160 kit and added the TRD hardware to mount the rear reservoirs and brake lines, etc. In the end, you almost pay the same with the 6112/5160 combo as you would with the TRD kit's.

The one benefit to the 6112's, is the ability to adjust the height differently then the TRD kits. I'm running slightly lower on the 6112's, just to give me a little more camber/caster adjustment, which leaves the front end about 1/2" lower then the TRD kit, but gets me a little closer to ideal alignment without aftermarket UCA's.

 

Good read and nice set-up. Have you had any experience towing with it? I have a 3000 lb. boat and many different lakes within 150 miles. I like the look and performance but, need to tow as well.

 

Just wondering what is so special about Pro and Baja - does Toyota accept their kits as factory replacements? I'd like to add some capacity to my new truck as well, to pull my horse trailer but I'm not interested in too much lift. 1 1/2" to 2" max and level would be ok. I was thinking about a Pro Sport kit because its Bilsteins on the front, and AAL on the back, so it sticks close to OEM.

Is there a gold standard? I'm not interested in wasting money, but I have a new truck, and so I'm interested in a high quality mod.

 

I think I am going to just order the fronts then and run aftermarket rear. Do you remember if the new bump stops came in the same hardware package as the brake line spacer stuff? I am thinking it is the PTR13-35120-AD. Looks like I just need to order the left and right shocks, two coils, and the bump stops/hardware.

 

pretty sure unless the parts were installed on the truck from the factory they hold no more of a warranty than just the mfg 1yr on just the parts.

Just because they are "toyota" parts doesnt mean that putting them on your truck magically puts them under the original warranty of your truck. (correct me if i am wrong)

FYI the PRO/BAJA does not come with any lift what so ever in the rear.

 

What is the tongue weight? The AAL handles small/moderate weight better, but for improved towing with something heavier I would definitely leave the overloads in with the AAL. This improves load carrying capacity over stock (though you should not exceed gross).

IMO the draw of the Baja or Pro is that it is tuned specifically to the Tacoma by TRD engineers, and since it is all OEM gear there are no complications with CV angles, poor alignments, needing UCAs, ect. It also covers fine details like being extended travel and including additional hardware to support that like new bump stops and extended brake line brackets.

I'm pretty certain the bump stops and brake line extensions all came in the same hardware package in my kit.

Correct, neither one offer rear lift, but both offer extended rear travel. The 1.5" extended rear travel pairs well when adding the 1.5" progressive AAL in the rear.

The setup was just shy of $1700 with everything purchased from Toyota of Dallas (trdparts4u.com).

 

So i am having a hard time finding just the 6112 struts WO springs. I already purchased springs and JUST want the 6112 struts. Any links?? Thanks!

I'm not sure that I have seen any for sale independently, but you might try Headstrong Off-Road. Their website only lists the combo but they are a vendor on Tacoma World and might be able to work something out.

Did you ever receive and install the Baja kit?

 

Headstrong sells them as a full coil over not just the strut. Was told that's how they receive them. Oh well. The Baja has beefier springs anyways
