bakflip fibermax mini review and notes

    Purchased the fibermax for my regular cab. The only reasonable price I could find with shipping to Hawaii was Amazon. Shipping cost from anywhere else I could find was over $200 (amazon was free) - apparently bakflip will not honor warranty when purchased through amazon so be warned. Here are some pics:

    Also purchased and seen in pics: DeeZee bed mat, keeper cargo bars, heininger load bar, pop and lock.

    notes on bakflip fibermax:
    -one of the knobs that secure the bakflip down to the rails did not come with a nut inside. it was like a pre-manufactured knob. luckily,because i have a longbed, there were two extra rail nuts (the ones that slide into the rail). They worked.

    -the drain tubes kept falling off the nipples, so I had to add hose clamps. also did leak test, it leaks around the drainage hole area. it only seems to leak when there is too much water and it overflows. I added some silicone in that area which helped a lot (sadly i dont have images of that).

    -in person, it looks great. in pictures, details show up - the rubber seal on the tailgate end is not perfectly straight. they use rivets to secure that seal - rivets are too tight which deform the seal visually. as mentioned, drainage system could use some slight tweaking to prevent leaks. They used some foam pieces on the cab side rail to prevent overflowing, but it's not enough (why i used silicone).

    -install was easy, about an hour. condensed version is to push rails as far foward to cab. push down rails toward ground when tightening rails. place bakflip on rails, unfold, align, re-fold and tighten two cab side knobs.

    -when first installed the rubber seals on the cover itself is wavy and not flat, but after a few hours in the sun, they flattened out.

    -fairly heavy, not something i would be taking on and off frequently - but it is fairly easy to do.

    -the coat-hanger-breakin-easily issue is something I considered, but decided to live with that - just won't keep my bundles of cash and diamonds in the bed.

    Great review! Your setup looks nice. Been seriously considering this one.

    How's the weight? Is it easy to fold up?

    Just want to clear something up. Those bars that go across your bed, those are not part of the bakflip right? I hauls atvs everywhere so i want to be sure i can still do that even if i have one of these.

    Very easy to fold up from either side of the truck. Weight only seems a little heavy when removing the whole cover by yourself. It's just a little cumbersome to do it alone.

    Bars are removable cargo bars from "Keeper" - not at all a part of Bakflip system.

    Looks like it has a "diamond plate" texture to the top of it...is it rated to carry a load on top of it, not for hauling, if you needed to stand or sleep on it...could you?

    The only time it's recommended to put any weight on the panels is if its folded at least one time. Then you could sit or stand on the underside when two or more panels are stacked. So folded and using as chair or scaffold, yes. Sleeping on fully closed cover, no.
