I have seen some mixed reviews on these covers with keeping water out. I have the factory one right now but before I get crazy trying to seal it I'm thinking of just getting the flip. I really like how it flips up and gives you more access to the bed and can also protect the rear window. Any info would be very helpful.

I have one on my 2011 Ram. Like it for it's folding all the way up to the back glass....only loose a few inches of bed space. Mine is water tight..... for the most part. Driving in heavy rains the bed will get wet in spots.... nothing so bad I wanted to try to chase it down. I have the fiberglass model....forget the model name very sturdy design. Really like the locking / release method. I have the rugged liner hard folding cover on my 2016 Tacoma and like the design and features of the backflip much better but got the rugged liner on craigslist for $200 so couldn't pass it up for the price.
Hope this helps give you something to compare.

The only way to guarantee a dry bed is a one piece hard cover that laps over the edges. Even that can have water entry around the tailgate to fender gaps in a driving rain.

I have an Extang Trifold because of convience, light weight , etc. I will get runs down the sides of the bed, but they usually go under my bed mat.

If I had to keep something dry, it would be in a tub.

I agree with this. They’re not 100% waterproof, but I’d say they’re as good as the little bit of water you’d get in from a opening a hatchback.

I’ve had the Bakflip F1 on my taco for well over 2 years now. It leaked a little when I first got it. Now with daily use and exposure to elements, it leaks significantly more. For me, I wouldn’t buy again. I would research the other options and purchase a different cover.

Howdy, I have the Bakflip MX4. In Florida we have heavy downpours daily in the summer. I did just the basic install, no extra RV sealant or anything like that. I get some moisture around the edges of the bed when it rains hard but I’m still comfortable storing gear. Now I’m not storing expensive electronics or anything like that, just the kind of stuff that you want to stay dry but won’t hurt is there’s a little moisture.

If you’re looking for full waterproof, IMO you may want to look elsewhere, or be ready to put in some extra work sealing it up.

But overall I am very happy with the Bakflip. Def worth it for my needs.

Goodluck keeping water out of a Tacoma under any and all circumstances. Those front bed corners in particular are tricky. I still get occasional leaks in really hard rains in the front corners even with my topper. As long as you have the bed mat installed it'll channel the water under your gear and out the drain holes. The bed mat is key.

Guy on eBay sells factory second bedmats. My experience is after about a week, the bed mats all have dings, scrapes and imperfections.

    I think I paid $60 delivered.

I've got a MX4 and it's pretty water tight except for the 4 corners. If you seal those corners up with some silicone or something, it should keep the bed dry.

For me, it wasnt worth the effort. I like the ability to remove the cover whenever and the little bit of water in the bed doesnt bother me. I have a bed mat too.

Good deal. Very good deal. Yeah I dropped 100 bucks on my OEM brand new and it looks very used already.

Most of the water in my box was coming in from the sides of the tailgate. Put some weather stripping up the sides & make sure the 2 gaps at the bedrails near the back window are sealed. From there it's all about the tonneau cover seals & should be fairly minimal

Dont worry about the photo being off. The photo is a generic. The mat I received fit the bed perfectly.

yeah, i had to get some good silicone and plug up all of the areas that were leaking. took me about thirty minutes to find all of the spots. it's about 99.9% water free now.

I have a TrucXport. It lets a little water in around the rear corners, but I think that's because water comes up from between the rear bed and tailgate. Regardless, I wrap luggage in a tarp to keep everything dry.

I have the Bakflip F1 and love it, sure it's not water tight but I wasn't looking for one. If it's something I don't want to get wet I put it in a plastic bag or a water tight container. I also did not install the water drains as required so maybe it would be. $.02

I have the bakflip MX4. I like the cover. Works pretty good. Mine leaks near the front of the cover somewhere. Not to bad but a little.
