Finally finished a project I had been piecing together for a while. I wanted a way to transport my bikes that wasn’t too cumbersome and still allowed me the full functionality of my Bakflip MX4 cover. After some trial and error, I decided to (semi)permanently mount a track rail on top of the cover by the back of the cab. I used the Rockymounts 47” rail for this combined with a 1.5”x48” (1/8” thick) aluminum strip as a backing plate. Used the Rockymount rail as my guide holes for both the aluminum and the bed cover and a new clean 1/4” drill bit. Added some silicone to the bolts to help keep it sealed on after mounting (the included hardware with the Rockymount rail fit perfectly). I think it turned out great! Added a couple of the Rockymount Drop Top fork mounts and I think it came out really clean. Happy with how low profile it is and that I can take the mounts off easily when not in use.

    All in cost:
    Rockymount Track Rail: $90
    Aluminum strip: $15
    Drop Top Mount: $80/each
    Total: $185-$265

I'm thinking about doing the same to my truck since I just purchased a bike, is it hard to buckle and unbuckle with the rail being close to the mx4 buckle?

It’s a little tight, but it still fits and buckles no problem.

Does the track rail with top mounts installed hinder the use of the bakflip when folded up to the back glass? I assume you leave the rail installed and the cover sits on top of the rail when folded to the back glass?

With the mounts installed on the rail, not able to fold all the way to the glass, but no problem folding all the way up with just the rail. I usually take the mounts off when I’m not using them for an extended period - I just keep the hex key in the center console or in a box in the bed - only takes a few minutes.
