Okay, after extensive tonneau research I think I've landed on the Bak MX4. The only thing that scares the pants off of me is drilling out the drain holes in the bed. Other than that the install looks easy. I've watched a few YouTube vids. But none of them show the drain hole process. Apparently there's a fuel line that can get nicked on the driver's side? WTF? Anyone have pics or incredible detail about how to avoid nicking the fuel line?

Also, any better places to order than Amazon? Thanks!

Are you saying your truck has no drain holes in the bed?

No I am not. For this tonneau you gotta use a step drill to bore them out a bit to fit the drain tube... sounds lame, actually. But everything else about the cover looks perf.

Go with an Undercover Armorflex; 10X the cover that the Bak is. If you've already bought the Bak, did you save the receipt...?

I thought I bought it. But I haven't. Told the dealer to hold off on ordering it. Now I'm researching other things....

Okay, Neil Young, it's not the actual bed - just the composite bed liner/plastic. Enlarging the holes a bit to fit the drain tube.

Gotta say though - someone must have modded something to go from the larger diameter Bak drain tube to the smaller diameter drain hole in the taco by now right? A little funnel type thing or something? I would buy that.....

I have a similar cover. I never drilled the drain holes in the bed. I have the drain tubes ran to spill out under the mat and then it will drain out the back. Also, I live in Las Vegas and I park in a garage every night... so rain is not seen very often (except for monsoon season).

Nah, you don’t have to drill. There’s actually already holes in the bed that drains water. The drilling part is only if you want a direct connection. Beside, very little water gets into the bed if you install correctly.

I've "chosen" the BAKflip MX4 too, assuming my new wheels arrive sometime. Some of the covers cover up your rails, but the BAKflips come w/ brackets that drop them down a bit so you still have full use of the rails. There may be others that allow full use of the rails (I'm sure someone will point out my error) but it's the only one that I have been able to verify.

Regarding the drain hose (and in addition to suggestions in this thread), I've seen other posters using a brass fitting to reduce the drain hose and stick into the factory drain holes, and some that go through the side of the bed near the tie downs. Lots of discussion; you could earn the cost of a cover in the time you will spend reading about it.

For prices, I've seen several 'discounts':
    • Tonneau Covers World: They told me they always have a sale, and if the cover you want isn't on sale call them and talk to a salesperson and they can put it on sale for you. https://tonneaucoversworld.com/
    • Member GotExhaust says to PM them for pricing
    • Member/Vendor TruckAlter says to PM/email them for special forum pricing, luke@truckalterations.com

Also: A lot of the covers are made by the same parent company, although I think they keep the brands separate and have distinct features: https://truck-hero.com/brands

I got my bakflip from @truckalter. He had the best price of any online dealer.

What makes it so much better? I had an MX4 on my Frontier and liked it a lot, so I was planning on that or maybe the roll up hard cover from Bak, but I’ll entertain the UA if it is better. Can you elaborate?

Do you mind sharing the price/percentage off? I'll be ordering as soon as I physically possess this truck that has ben promised to me.

He beats the current Amazon price easily by $150+ and that included shipping. DM him and I'm sure he'll provide exact pricing. I bought one in January and recently ordered one for a buddy at the same price.

i didn't do anything to mine. Very little water gets in the bed - NONE OF THEM are 100% water tight - but I get very little in there -

It's a truck after all... what does get in there I assume makes its way out of the drain holes - or the 110 degree temps in Arizona dries it up quickly anyway.
