You all missed the bakflip mx4 deal back in July on Amazon. Was able to get a brand new 6ft one shipped for about $650 after rebate and promo. I got my rebate in within 4 weeks. It was a steal.

His website lists a bit more than Amazon, but I’ll DM him

Argh. It’s Bak Ind that sells on Amazon, but ships quicker if you buy from Amazon then direct… never understood that.

The only spots that get water are the back corners and a little bit in front behind drivers seat. I know where to leave crap if I don’t want it to get wet. It also drips down the side and not from the top. So if u have stuff elevated like on a piece of pressure treated wood etc, you’ll be fine. I would def not drill the bed

I had a shop install mine so it was properly, best bed cover out there. Hands down. I’ve run Bakflips for the last 10 years until I just switched over to an ARE shell, and I only made that change because I needed the additional cargo space.

I HIGHLY recommend the MX4. Sorry I don’t have any helpful info on the drain hole installation but just wanted to say that you won’t regret the purchase if you get a Bakflip.

I have the Undercover. Bought it new for my 2019 and transferred it to my 2021. Still looks new.
The only dislike I have is that the side rails for it cover the truck's bed rails negating the use of the Toyota anchor points.
Maybe this has been changed on the newer models.
Back in 2019, they even gave me a free swing case tool box.

I have a BAKflip w/ no drain tubes. I live in Phoenix, but I’ve never had an issue even in heavy monsoon rains. If you offroad at all, you’ll eventually plug up your forward bed drain holes and very likely want to use a step bit open them up a bit more. 1/2” should be plenty. There’s absolutely no reason to be intimidated in doing this. Takes like 60 seconds and all you’re doing is making pre-existing and barely visible drain holes slightly larger. They’ll still be barely visible. Use a step bit, which is far too short to make it possible to drill into your fuel filler line. If I’m honest, if somebody drilled into their fuel filler line with a standard drill bit while doing this, they’re extraordinarily careless and too stupid to be doing ANY kind of work on their vehicle.

Personally, I think the drain tubes are almost entirely unnecessary for a large percentage of BAKflip owners.

I drilled the front of the bed for my drain holes. Have had it on now for 22 months and no problems.

Yeah I was thinking it would be tough to do with a step bit. But, I dunno, I've also heard that fuel line is like 1/4 inch below the bed.

I drilled my bed for the tubes. Unless I was in a driving rain storm for hours, there is minimal leaking from my MX4, and as long as items are kept from contacting the grooves between bed stiffeners, no harm.....

Unsure why you’d think that. It’s effortless. It’s a composite bed and it’ll take you like 60 seconds. What you’ve heard about the fuel line proximity is dead wrong. Once you do it, you’ll feel silly about having been hesitant.

I blame tacomaworld. There are a number of threads on here about people hitting their fuel lines while drilling for the drain tubes... But, I'm sure it'll be fine. Especially since I'm planning to mod and not drill.

You have 3+ inches before you touch anything on the driver side when you drill. You’d only be in danger of hitting something if you were completely inept using hand tools. A step bit makes hitting anything impossible.

This video below details the entire process. It’s incredibly simple.

Okay... I don't want to doubt a guy with such an orange truck and so many followers, but there is a gas line down there between the tank and bed. He just missed it with the step bit and skinny little twig. But thx for the vid - it does help.

    Check build thread!
Hated mine. Leaked like a bastard. Popped open off-road. Let dirt in everywhere. Dented so easy.

Fwiw, not only did I not drill, I didn’t even put the tubes in, thing is totally fine, hardly any water even in the most severe downpour

also I love it- great option!
