Softtopper. If I did get another tonneau I’d go for a cheaper hard tonneau. Can’t be worse than the Bakflip. I really like the Softtopper.

Drilled mine higher so I could still use the bed, went with the front wall. Used a grommet. Nothing to it.

Drilled mine per instructions and no issues. Also, the factory sized holes were pretty small and clogged easily so even if I remove the cover, the holes will be fine.

But the hole through the back of the bed is a better move.

This is 100% correct. Quite a few members of our team worked for the child companies of THI prior. BAK, Retrax, Undercover, and many more all are owned by the same parent company, along with many of the reseller websites. Each company initially was individually owned and operated but from 2012 - 2017 most of them were purchased and merged together.

I drilled on top of the inner fenders and installed the drain tubes where they don't interfere with anything. If anyone has anxiety about drill a couple of holes in the bed, try installing a winch bumper... Cutting away part of the front bumper will cure you quick...

Had a back mx4. Not impressed. Froze up all winter and leaked all summer. I used it heavily and it lasted about a year and a half before it went to shit. Just not made for construction trades

On my Bakflip I just have the hoses tucked under the rubber bed mat I have. I used some foam blocks to direct water towards the drains in the front of the bed.

I also have bakflip not impressed wouldn’t buy it again. Only about 2 1/2 years old. The rubber is giving up where it folds and I rarely fold it. The tie down when it’s folded 2/3 of the way the sheet metal screws for the hold down bracket pulled out had to put in bigger screws. Very disappointed. Just my .02

Installed it myself and had it double checked at an authorized installer.

This is what I did, I drilled a hole in my bed mat and it holds the brass fitting in place in the drain hole

OP here. I ended up going with a shell over the bakflip. If you have any interest in that mind-blowing journey - head over to the "Fear The Sag" thread for pics etc. But this thread should be continued for Bakflip MX4 mods and discussions anyhow methinks.
