    Hey guys,

Recently found a mint BakFlip bed cover on Craigslist for $300. It’s 4.5 hours away but with the deal being so good I’m willing to travel.

The question I hope you all can help me with is this: I have the OEM tonneau cover bars/mounts on my bed, along with the OEM rail system. Will the BakFlip install with these things in place?

I’d like to make sure it fits before I make a long drive.

    Thanks!

I think it should although I have never had the OEM bed cover accessories you mentioned. The Bakflip just uses the channel that runs around the bed side. When you mention the OEM rail system, if you’re talking about the one that’s an inch or two below the bed side, that doesn’t interfere with install at all from my memory.

The oem cover pins have to be removed. You need new bed rail caps. The cargo tie down rail have to be moved down. I went from oem cover to MX4 cover.

If you’re asking, will the current set-up for the OEM cover work with the BakFlip? short answer is No. I’ll take a picture of my bakflip later this morning (if I remember) so you can compare.

That's a bummer, I was hoping for an easy answer!

Just because I don't know the answer, why do I need new bed rail caps?

Good deal I guess, but 9 hours of driving!

The ones you have are notched. Also, make sure it comes with the brackets to relocate the OEM bed rails.

Because of the cut out of the pins that are on there now. The BakFlip rails won't cover them. The cut outs will be exposed.

New rail covers are $175 to $240, depending on where you get them.

It’s a lot of driving, no doubt! For a sub $300 BakFlip I’d be willing to do it… but not if it’s not a direct fit!

Thank you all for the info!

I had the OEM cover on my last truck and switched to a backflip, it covered the cutouts just fine on mine.

But a 9 hour round trip for a 300 part is pretty wild.

I think it would cover the cutouts too. Maybe a bit of rain would get in there. I'd get it for that good of a deal and I would drive that far too. I drove five hours for one part once. hah.

Lol, at some point you young whipper snappers will figure out what your time is really worth! And then there is the gas plus wear and tear on your vehicle. I mean how much are you really saving here OP? Just giving you something to think about.

I went to the Realtruck website and for the shortbed they want $1200. I think that 9 hours drive is a long time. I figure that he can get parts from them if he chooses. I would get new bed rail covers also. There also were some installation videos on the net somewhere.

Saving $900 is nothing to sneeze at, but I still wouldn't drive 9 hours for it. But this maybe the OP's best chance at getting a quality cover that fits his budget. I get it.

Part arrived today latchbar repaired. While working I have noticed more scratches in the back finish. They scratch so easy.

Yes, you're right, it's a long time. The used market on bed covers is pretty sparse around here so I got pretty excited when I saw one for $300. I like driving, so that part wouldn't bother me much.

Talked to the fella via email and he said he'd go $250...
