Honda SUV climbed a parking meter while parking, meter pole thru rear suspension touching fuel tank. That's my coworker snapping the pole after I sawed thru it and lift vehicle higher with the boom.

Scientific findings are always changing and what we know now is only soon to be replaced by other findings that actually make more sense. It happens all the time. The same thing happens to every field of study.

Practical application of anything will never be 100% predictable. You can't simulate something, and call it gospel because once you put it out in the real world to do its thing the results will fluctuate wildly from the original findings. Whether or not that's in a good way, no one can say for sure.

Scientific findings sure do change. Let me know when it's decided that leverage does not amplify the forces applied, or when applying X amount of force into a concentrated point is no longer more damaging than applying the same X amount of force over a larger surface area, and I'll be happy to eat my words and mail you a sick pack.

So if the ball hitch hadn’t been there you wouldn’t have to have you twice weekly sipessions? Sorry to hear that you have to go, hope all works out.

The reason I try to remember to pull mine out. Other reason is when I park close to my wife’s car in prep for snow storms.

Anything to support the law, we all agree with the banged up shins.

Not trying to be a dick about the law, but I have always heard this, but I know I am bad at removing mine and sometimes leave it in intensional and would like to know the actual laws.

Without the ball hitch taking the full force of the impact and transferring it directly to the hitch/frame, the force would have been spread over a larger surface area, things would have crumpled (absorbing some of those forces), and less of the force would have made its way to me. That's a fact. How much of a difference it would have made is anyone's guess, but the fact remains that the forces exerted on me would have been less than they were.

I couldn't care less about vehicle damages in an accident, but there's no way I'd keep a hitch in the receiver while parking in public, people are way too litigious nowadays.

Oh, personal attack. Why, cause you are wrong? We'll just have to disagree, spunky. If it floats your boat don't leave you hitch in.

Mine rusted in the receiver and I couldn’t for the life of me get it out. Turns out they won’t pass me for inspection with a hitch on. You’re apparently not legally allowed to drive with it in if you’re not towing in MA.

I'm in Alabama and leave my hitch in. Always have, always will. I tow stuff from time to time and it has a locking pin to keep someone from stealing it. Never heard of getting a ticket for it though. Must be a geographical thing. I'd care to say that most trucks down here have a hitch in when not towing.

Nope. All these states with all these dumb laws. I'm glad I live here in the South, where less of those dumb laws exist. Dumb laws make up for lack of common sense nowadays...
