Could you guys help me if this need replacement? This pics was taken after cleaning some old grease. It seems like it seep out from the bottom of the boot. I couldn’t see any puncture or tear. There is no play and it was solid when I check for any play. These pic were taken when the truck was on the ground. TIA

FWIW- there is a balljoint tool specifically for the tacoma ball joints(odd sized cup), and ball joints are available all over(OEM on EBay from AUS or JPN). Ive swapped both my lowers with a balljoint press, takes time(as always) but is more cost effective than a whole LCA swap w/ alignment. Attached(photo) is the kit i ordered; most kits did not have the proper size for the tacoma ball joints(learned the hard way by ordering 3 different kits)IMG_0428.png

Thanks for sharing this, I did my research awhile back, and i think you can rent this specific one or at least the one that has the specific size at advance auto parts.

2-5 years left in all the ball joints I have seen in this thread. If they dont have any play then they are fine.

A little leak is not a concern. If you replace parts like that you will put your mechanics son through college.

From your user name are you in SoCal? Im in Vista(N County San Diego) if you want to use the ball joint tool if you’re anywhere local.

looking to take this on soon, do you know for sure if the kit from advance is the one that will work? I know they often stock a smaller and larger kit. I assume the larger is the one?

That’s a solid deal! I rebuilt my LCAs 2 years ago with poly bushings and it was a huge pain, so I don’t want to go back to the stock rubber ones if I can avoid it. I had a shop replace one LBJ at that point, but didn’t want to spring for the other one since it was still in good shape. Not afraid of taking on the work, just want to save myself multiple trips to the parts store for the right tools.
