I'm betting that my bumper cover costs less than a radiator, radiator closure panel, radiator fans, and whatever else would be damaged on the car that hits me.

Less net damage means less insurance claims, which in the long run means lower insurance rates for everyone.

Id rather my insurance go up a few bucks than someone causing thousands of dollars of damage to my truck. Most likely if someone rearends you hard enough to send the hitch through thier radiator, it would have damaged more than just your rear bumper.

not to many, love it the way it is

It looks like they would possibly damage the hitch receiver and especially the pin connector along with the bumper if a hitch was not on the truck. a hitch receiver would certainly hold up better if the force of the hit was directly upon and absorbed by the hitch and ball

Woman yacking away on a cell phone ran into the back of my truck.....she hit the hitch square on (I have a Hitch Safe). No damage whatsoever. And for those that think the bumper is protection, fagetaboutit - the chrome bumbers on these trucks are paper thin and dent extremely easily. They can even be "dinged" by doors.

I seen one of those funky hitch mini bumpers the other day and thought that that would be cool to have something else back there to help climb up in the back of the truck. The bumper does not stick very far out and add rain or muddy boots and it could be a nut cruncher trying to get over the tailgate, lol.Actually trying to plant a foot on the bumper when getting out of the truck bed is the hard part. wonder if the funky mini hitch bumper would absorb a rear end collision impact or just crumble?

edit... I could just see the mini bumper hitch getting compressed up into the receiver hitch and being a real pita to get back out of there

I ALWAYS have a reciever in my hitch. I tow something at least a couple times a week, so it just makes sense. If I were to get rear ended, the added protection is a little bonus.

I have never heard that, but you never know. I mean in some states it is illegal to sing and brush your teeth at the same time...

If it was I am sure you would just be asked to fix it, kind of like a taillight.

I go along with most here. Leave the hitch & ball on.

But here is something I saw on another site, Super Bumper.
    http://sparebumper.com/index.php

I am keeping that on my list of farkles in the future.
