You are right...It's not ABOUT the money, but seeing guys on my crew that have $ hardships at the slightest hiccup, and having to talk to guys about what the BS with the gov't shutdown and what it means to their bank account - Paying our first responders, military, etc a bit more (and by that I mean putting emphasis on the importance of their jobs versus sports entertainment) wouldn't hurt anyone.
Do I think we need contracts worth millions of dollars....Nope. But I don't think a ball player does either.

    I agree with this.

although I understand supporters who cite the revenue from such a public-private partnership.

but I'd never be convinced it's a good investment of tax dollars.

Not being a fan of most sports, I would tend to agree (I watch motorsports, couldn't tell you the name of more than a couple of drivers)

But the events do draw a lot to the local businesses. Primarily places to eat, but also gas stations and convenience stores.
Local stadiums really do give the local economy a kick in the pants.

Overpaid. Which is just one reason why I dont like pro sports. I usually only watch College sports because those athletes are trying their hardest for the sake of the game and their future while going to school, rather than sitting on a huge contract and could care less as long as their signed. College games are more unpredictable and exciting. Pro sports are saturated with rich narcissists (and not just the players).

    Actually
    You don't know

But, if posing questions and answering them yourself...(even if incorrectly) in a thread you think the subject is boring...gets you through the day

Who are we to stop your happiness

Btw, you have posted several times but have yet to address the OP
You may want to troll elsewhere

    Good Day

I totally agree with you about the player's salaries. They couldn't be too high to bother me because the money they work to earn comes from millions of fans who enjoy watching them compete and rooting them on. The earned merit private sector Capitalist free market determines how much money they make. :)

I don't even care about my tax money going to build and maintain sports stadiums because so many others are thoroughly enjoying their use. And happy people make a better society.

And just for the record... I don't follow any sports. I don't attend any live sports events. I don't watch them on television. In fact I don't watch television at all. But I'm all for others enjoying sports.

I love these threads. Larry and Rich have an actual conversation about the topic while the rest display startling ignorance about capitalist economies.

    A quick $.o2:

In any profitable industry, employees are paid proportionally to:

    a) The revenue they generate
    b) The availability of comparable labor on the market

So no. They're not overpaid. They generate billions (literally) in revenue and the number of people with their skillset (consistent home runs, throwing a football into a moving garbage can 40 yards away, etc.) is miniscule. In the case of elite stars (Jeters, Mannings, Etc.) they may be the ONLY person on the entire planet with that skill set.

Those of you hatin': Stop whining that other people won the genetic lottery. Be glad you weren't born in Somalia in 1991 missing a leg. Your life isn't that bad.

    The better coast
Every athlete is overpaid in my opinion. And the fact that they say "its not about the money" and then the next season deny a multimillion dollar contract makes me laugh. I also think

But as long as it's a private business I dont really give a shit.
