The 7100 isn’t as expensive as the King that’s for sure but my 7100’s ride amazing on and off road. There is no need to adjust them IMO they do not have any undesirable ride characteristics on road. Just be sure to get the correct valving for your uses. I believe I chose 255/70 IIRC that’s what was recomended

Would you be able to explain the aspect of the valving a little more? 255/70 IIRC is very foreign to me. I know that every truck is different from the amount of weight in the rear, DCSB vs DCLB and highway, vs city vs off-road driving.

I talked to my Bilstein vendor (wheel every weekend) and I talked to Bilstein directly on the different valving options. What it came down to was a resounding recommendation for 255/70 based on my particular truck. Tacomas come in many shapes and sizes (some with LOTS of overland weight, others much more simple like mine) but the 255/70 valving was recomended based on the overall size of the truck & intended uses & I recall everyone basically telling me that in general, a tacoma with these shocks should be well setup with 255/70. I also googled many many different articles or resources looking at the valve options & the 255/70 also made sense based on those charts also. . Somewhere between great on road manners and stiff enough to be incredibly durable and planted offroad whether it be slow crawling or faster speeds on washboard fireroads. It’s probably nowhere near as fancy as Something like ACCUTUNE’s shock tuning services but it’s a general recommendation that I chose to follow and I couldn’t be happier. No issues on any type of terrain.

All things considered (running a 14” short body) I’m so incredibly happy with my up travel AND my below axle clearance. Check it out. If I recall, I have about 5.75 of shaft showing at static ride height. The 14” short body 7100’s are 19.6x33.3. My lower shock mounts are nicely tucked up & I still have decent up travel for a SOA truck with only a Dakar pack & superbumps. As I said before though - you’ll need different sized upper bushing spacers for the 7100’s their upper mounts are narrower than King and Fox

how much up bump vs rebound travel are you guys setting these from ride height?
I just tacked stuff up right now and was at 4" bump, 8" rebound.
lower shock eye is about at the top of the axle tube so i can easily drop it down to 6"/6".
is that what everyone typically runs the up/down travel split?

Mine is about 4” up and 8” down as well and I use mine for crawling.

is that 4" bump travel with 1" of shock rod showing? as in 3" + overhead?
my current 4" is to metal to metal of the shock itself.... which seems a little too few bump travel inches for me

At ride height I have 4” of exposed shock shaft but I have about 1/2” of safety net to not bottom out the shock.

I guess I have 4.75” exposed shaft at height and I forget the safety net I left myself. I think it was if the bump stop managed to compress 100%, which would never happen.

I broke my leaf pack down and cycled it in my garage so I know it’s done correctly. I just don’t remember the exact numbers.

Are you running pretty close to stock ride height?
I just got Chevy 63”ers under mine before I started the shock relocation so I’m not sure what ride height is going to quite end up at yet but I’m going to try to end up within around a 3” lift.
Quick mockup showed about 4” but I’m hoping it’ll settle a bit, and if not I’ll shorten the shackles.

thanks for the pics, I’m pretty sold on moving the lowers down a bit more

I’m at 1.75” lift in the rear, measured off the top of the axle tube to the bottom of the frame rail. Stock Second gens are 8.25”, not sure about third gens. Pretty sure the same. My front end is around 1.5” of lift, if not less. I haven’t actually measured since I don’t care. I like being fairly low.

my stock measurement of bottom of rail to axle top was roughly 9", not sure if the stock leafs settle in or not, this is a brand new truck so it might be high to start?
Yup, low is nice. I'm not sure how low I can run with the 63" leafs, but I'm stuck with whatever i can get the back end down to and will match the front to suit.

thanks for all the info and checking stuff.
good to have more data points, and love the bobbed bed!
