I found it easiest to start with a small bit first. I used 4 different sizes starting from a 1/16. I didn't use an angle grinder, but once I got through each rivet with the 1/2" bit they all popped off easy, plus it saved my OEM hangars. I will get BAMF shackles after I go with a different leaf pack (on Dakars now), but Im doing a shock relocate first. I just ordered a new set of OEM shackles without the bushings. Going to tap those for a zero fitting and I ordered Wheelers bushings for them

Ok thanks for the advice. The smallest bit I got was 1/4 I might get smaller like you did. I got two bits in each size. So I can start with fresh bits on each side and have a centering punch too.

What leaf pack are you looking at getting?

Definitely want the centering punch and get it right in the middle of the flat spot on the rivet.

I might go with Deaver next. But it may have to wait until 2020. I want 35's this year.Lol

Did you end up unbolting your shocks too. To get the axle out of the way farther?

And 35s look super sexy  don’t think I will ever make the jump though. I am going through and reinforcing everything now for my 305s :muscleflexing:

i set the axle on jackstands, unbolted shocks and removed, old dakars removed. first bolted hangers to the frame, but could not get the eyes to line up. undid the hangers from the frame, and then mounted shackles and shackle hangers to the new leaf packs, and then everything lined up as i lifted axle into position...much easier

Pictures don’t do these justice. Super nice and huge I love them. And pretty sure the frame will bend way before these do haha very happy. 224627A0-0233-4EB3-AFC6-AF19DCEB6E68.jpg 4F11217E-7BDF-4936-A686-50E3C05B2634.jpg

I can't leave anything well enough alone
I have a set of early hangars that were part of the original group. Can anyone tell me the thread size of the inserts in the back of the hanger, where you would bolt a fabbed cross member brace to? Mine have threaded inserts welded in place there, 4 of them per side. I wanna say 5/16, but maybe they are 3/8? And fine thread or coarse?

Truck is at the shop (can't measure it) and I need to bring hardware up there tomorrow... Thanks in advance.

So, putting this quick review out there.
When I ordered these, I was ordering them more so because they looked better than OEM and also so I wouldnt have to worry about bending my OEM hangars. I've come down a few times on them already, luckily they were still straight. I've heard stories about the ride quality improving but honestly thought that was BS. Got to take the truck out for an adventure a couple weekends ago.

For those familiar with the SoCal trail, I went through Cleghorn's fire road and off shoots, up 2N17X (Pilot Rock) to Arrowhead, took the 18 up to Green Valley Lake and the start of 3N16 all the way to the 38 and from there took Burns Canyon down to Pioneer Town. It wasnt too much technical driving, but it was a lot of bumpy Forest road driving. I almost did not want to believe it, but the BAMF HD Hangars did improve the ride quality on the truck. It felt a lot smoother going through the forest roads, and on a long trip like this, it made the whole thing that much more fun.

For those wondering, I have the older Dakars with the AAL. I have bed drawers with tools and some camping stuff (~300 lbs), Bruteforce high clearance rear bumper with dual swingouts. And the shocks I'm using are the B110's (soon to be relocated FOX 12")

Yeah, was a long day. Lol. After Cleghorn and Pilot Rock I was over doing anything technical so I kept it easy the rest of the way
