BAMF HD Shackle hangers

Thx Jerry, just got a Miller 211 mig (welding for dummies like me)

 

Been eyeing these for a while. Just placed an order, pumped to get my rear end in shape finally.

 

Paint has been halted due to a very nice, much needed snow day. But she’s getting there!

Looks nice. Did you shim them in at all, like a playing card? I guess the reason for my question is clearance getting it back in after paint? Hopefully that makes sense

 

I actually thought about putting in a thin shim to protect the hangers powder coat, not necessarily for clearance when re-installing crossmember after paint. I did a few coats of primer and semi gloss spray paint and had no issues putting it back into place. If you were doing a thick powder coat on the crossmember id probably recommend fabbing it up with a shim in place to compensate for the powder.

 

Cool. That makes sense. I am painting and did the same. Came out easily with the exception of the weld nuts. The plates fit over them like a stud and make removal interesting after welded. I had to spread the rear hangers to remove for the final welds and paint. The updated version looks a bit simpler.

Grab a couple 8"x11" sheets of gaskets material from auto zone and call it a day if you're worried about it. But honestly, how often are you thinking you'll be taking it off?

 

Never really. I did just to paint it properly. I just didn't expect it to be difficult the remove. Just caught me off guard.

 

For sure, especially if the hangers and leafs are already in and set. Did all mine before putting the leafs in to make sure everything was straight so it was a little bit of an easier process.

 

Final product. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. I was amazed by how much I could flex the frame pushing on the hangers along the axis of the crossmember with my bare hands. This should solve that

 

I'm sure it was mentioned in this thread, but due to the dimensions for the BAMF hanger, this wouldn't interfere with the stock exhaust, correct?

 

I highly recommend moving it but it will clear the tips.

 

I plan on doing an exhaust reroute so I can have that done at the same time. I thought it looked close, but thanks for confirming.

 

Bought these to save money from the Archive ones. Grinded off the rivets and drilled em out - super easy. My confidence level was so high that this was going to be a max 4 hour install. Until I lined up the hangar and it was literally impossible to get all 4 bolts in. Put the new shackle on, put the hangar on the shackle, jacked up axle - Nope. The bottom bolt holes aren’t lined up with the actual holes on the frame. 4 hours to put in 8 bolts...and 3 hours of that was spent swinging a deadblow at the hangar.

Thank God its done but it makes sense now why some warned me about the BAMF hangars. I’m sure people have had an easy time - I’m just a regular dude saving money by doing it himself. But something didn't line up for me. Dont hate me for sharing my experience.

Build quality is superb though and I’m happy to have saved my $200+. Time for some sushi and beers!
