Also, I just heard back from Jerry. The bumpers actually come (or should?) with one of these Bully License Plate flip. I'll have to dig through my boxes for this.

 

I recall drilling a few holes in the license plate mount. I think.

 

sooo any one get the dimensions from the top of the bed to the edge to cut? or at least the bottom edge of the black plastic on the top of the bed to the cut line? @JLee possible to put that info in the first page of this thread?...... or is this info in the instructions that come with the bumper???

 

It's mentioned throughout the thread a few times. Jerry told me 17.75 down from the top of the bed rail. I made my line at 17 and 7/8, cleaned the cut up and it came out perfectly. There's a small gap between the bumper and body panels, maybe 1/4" to 3/8" with some trim over the cut. There's a huge amount of play in oem bolt holes so you will want to see a gap for sure.

No matter how many times we measured it didn't look straight. Between the truck rake, the ground not being level and the body lines on the truck, it will play mind games.

 

So ur saying ignore my gut and eyes and measure and cut... got it, i also got a shell.... thats not getten broken loose.... soooo i'll guestimate the difference from the top of the bed and the bottom edge of the plastic piece thats at the top edge of the bed..... i may be stubburn....‍♂️

 

Our measurement is off the top of the bed rail. If you are trying to measure without removing your cap you would have to figure that out. It's .25" below the tail light is where the cut ends up.

 

i'll be the guinea pig and share what i get, i guess i will pop the shell loose and base it off of the top and get the numbers from the bottom of the trim, hopefully it makes it easier for some one else.

 

It’s pretty easy to loosen the clamps enough to slip a 1x4 between the bed rail and shell across both sides. Then measure down at several points to make your cut line.

It doesn’t add too much hassle to the install and considering what your doing, it’s worth the extra effort to get it right.

 

Or you can measure .25" below the tail light to your shell and transfer that to the wheel well line.

 

can u use the frame as reference? im not sure at the moment but isnt the frame flat going towards the front of the truck from the bumper? isnt the body buldged out towards the wheel well?

 

I'm not seeing how you can use the frame to reference the cut.

 

isn't the cut parallel to the frame?

 

We don't measure off the frame it might be parallel but it has a lot of dips and valleys. I recommend measuring from the tail light up or off the top of the bed.

Installed. What rear lights are you all running? I would like them to fit in the inserts. Thanks in advance.

 

Baja S1 or KC flex fit well. But any small 2x2 cube should work in the opening.

 

Installed mine and looks great!
How do you adjust the latch? The left swing arm locks with no play, but the right swing arm has some wiggle/play. This is even before mounting the spare tire on it.

 

Mine does the same on the right. I just wrapped the bolt with baseball bat tape and it tightened up. Not the best fix but good enough until I figure out something permanent. I have had it for a few months now and no concerns.
