I thought this was relevant to the discussion since you brought up the oil filter door. Mobtown 3/16" steel with the standard reinforcements. Guy hit a rock at 20ish mph right on the weakest point. Royally fucked the skid up, but protected the engine. Mobtown then sent him a new skid at their production cost as a "warranty" and also a "holy shit you hit a rock at 20 mph"

Alright! Now let's do it again with an RCI. Anyone want to take one for the team?

These pictures show a bit of the points I was making.

Yeah I don't like RCI skids for numerous reasons.

Narrow coverage. Have an Allen key bolt for the oil door. You mess one up on a rock, you'll have a heck of a time getting it out. Mess up a hex head bolt and just grab it with pliers. Zero reinforcement. Has that terrible little bump down thing for the diff. The unnecessary front lip that serves no purpose and interferes with almost every aftermarket bumper.

Lmao real glad I found this thread and asked the NOVA folks because RCI was definitely on the top of some of my lists not 48 hours ago!

I'm just happy you're actually doing research rather than just buying something, which is what a lot of people do.

I think the Allen key issue is something that could easily be fixed, but it's better to fix it before you hit a rock rather than after.

Yeah, that’s true. That low on the list of my issues with them though. Main thing being no reinforcement and that stupid diff hang down thing.

I ordered a set and should have them soon. I'm just curious if anyone's put them to the test and how they've held up. obviously i'm not expecting them to hold up like steel skids but i know BAMF has some seriously well built products.

They are constructed exactly the same as the steel ones. But don't beat on them too hard its still Aluminum.

FWIW, I drop my IFS skid when changing the oil...my skid has the oil door, but it makes a mess trying to drop the canister through such a small hole.

If I ever replace it, I'll go with a door-less one next time.

This was one of our Diff skids after one Rubicon trip. This is why we build them the way we do. Granted this is a extreame case of honey badgering the skinny pedal but he did what he had to do to get through the trail.

3rd gen on 33's drags a lot of ass!
