Is there a non-slip finish on the aluminum versions?? The oem plastic one is like a skating think when wet.

Also, are the cup holders plastic inserts and can they be removed? ....if yes can someone pull them and open the tailgate?

Mine has a textured finish and is not as slick as the OEM plastic. The cup holders are plastic inserts and can be removed. I am sure you could glue them in and make it harder, but if someone is determined to remove them I am sure they would be able to. I tried to reach the actuator for the tailgate and found it extremely difficult due to size of the hole and location. I have what someone once said "noodley" arms and had a hard time getting my full forearm in the tailgate. There might be a tool or something that helps them accomplish it, but I didn't try to find anything. To be honest I never thought about it until you posted your question. If it is a big concern, I would recommend one without the cup holders. The panel itself is great and I have only used my cup holders a couple of times in the last 7-8 months since I installed it and those couple of times would have been fine to have it just on the flat surface. Although it is nice to put different hardware and tools in when working on a project or shooting guns and bows. Others have mentioned the worry of stepping in them or getting things caught in them while loading/unloading the bed. While this could happen, it has not been an issue for me since I tend to try not to slide things across the powder coat and the cup holders are far enough to the sides that I don't usually find myself stepping on/around them.

Thanks for that honest and comprehensive review, appreciate it.
    The oem is downright unsafe!
