That is false. I have aftermarket head unit and speaker, it is night and day difference.

Tacoma stock head unit doesn’t have enough power to make difference with just speakers. You have to change both.

You don’t have to break the bank for quality sound. I have $500-$600 in mine and it’s been well worth it if you like quality audio. That is not everyone’s cup of tea. Not to mention I gained hands free calling and larger screen for backup camera.

now back on topic, OP what is the story on the truck with so few miles? Nice find.

It was the guys father who bought the truck. He was just a fan and had to have it as a second car. It was somewhat a shared experience with him and his son. The father never wanted to have a blemish on the thing. He liked the pristine look of the truck and only drove it once in a while (only a sunny weekend) and on the highway. Then back to the house for washing and putting in the garage. The son really did not want to sell it, but he needed the cash for a new house and he saw I would take care of the ride. It won't get many miles on it (overall). I am sure more than the average of 1,200 miles a year that they put on it.

I think I am settling on the Alpine F309 with an aftermarket tailgate handle / camera.

pioneer makes some nice headunits as well if i were to do it again id look at one of their units and dual camera support. i like the idea of having a front facing camera as well for basic stuff like parking haha

I have this black 'console area' sitting at my office -- http://www.metraonline.com/part/95-8214TB -- you pay the shipping and I'll send it over. It's still in the package. They sent the black and grey when I ordered mine ~2 years ago. I installed grey in my '05. This is the head unit I have -- https://www.crutchfield.com/S-q6QLsYt3W1c/p_105KWM845B/JVC-KW-M845BW.html -- there is probably a newer version, but having CarPlay and bluetooth is a great upgrade from the 05 head unit. I think I also ordered the console from crutch field - I just did a part search online and got the metraonline site ...

Good for you! You did the best you can. Congratulations! Now, in my opinion, the safety is always in the first place in my priority list, so do factory tailgate camera.

I wouldn't change anything onvthat truck. I would see how much the online used car purchasing people would pay for it.

No money, all went to truck...
that's a good deal no doubt. But when you really think about it, we're all crazy for thinking a 16 year old truck that costs 23,000 a good deal.

$28k likely pretty easy if it was rust free. Here's an example of what's being sold out here. Example 1. Example 2. Factor in the super low mileage of OP's truck, and see the prices increase.

I inspected many hoses and their ends / fittings etc. There is zero sign of cracking. The service that was done last year they addressed a couple of hoses but everything else looked great. Also note - they did get it up to operating temp once a week.
