Oh okay. Well I'm just starting to look for parts. I've seen your parts list on other threads. I'm confused about the whole 03 -04 Tacoma's having electronic throttle bodies. I have some electrical plugs that hook into the throttle body but I also have cables. I can rev the engine by simply moving the semicircle wheel thing the cables are hooked too. So..... Based on this I don't know if I should be looking a normal A340F tranny or of I need to rebuild current tranny with proper outputshaft.

V6? You have an electronic throttle system.

You can do a valve body swap. Paging @Lfaub03

Same one on Marty’s truck. It’s a rollbar from a 1985 Toyota Pickup.

You have an electronic throttle system then. You can either do a valve body swap, an output shaft swap, or luck out and find an 03-04 Tacoma ETCS-I transmission.

Yeah.. I'm reading @Lfaub03 post right now. So I guess I can use a pre 2003 tranny and then just swap the valve body and torque converter from my current tranny into the 4x4 one and Bam! I'm in business..?

Hold on... I too have cables to my throttle body, throttle and kick down from trans. So it is possible that Pilot has the same.
As for the trans, I did what Pilot is asking when I rebuilt my A340E, using the A340F 23 spline shaft. No modifications required.
I suggest purchasing a used A340F to make it easy on the trans guy working on your rebuilt unit. Oh, and replace the kick down cable while you're there as they do stretch over time.

    Good luck.

I've done a mod or two
4cyl trucks never got the electric throttle or trans pressure valve upgrade.

Only 2003 and 2004 v6 trucks had the ETCS-I system. All other engines did not.

The electronic throttle will still have redundant mechanical cables in case the electronic system fails. However the valve body in the transmission is completely electronic.

Yea I’ve got a whole thread to show how it’s done. If your V6 has the electronic instead of manual throttle valve, you can swap the valve bodies and torque converters over from a manual throttle valve transmission. Beats tearing the whole thing apart to swap the output shaft

Theoretically, yes. What @Lfaub03 is unprecedented in 4x4 swap history, at least from what I’ve seen. I’ve never seen someone swap the valve bodies to convert from mechanical to electronic kickdown.

Most people swap the output shaft and tail section which is labor intensive, tedious, and difficult. Swapping valve bodies is much easier.

I really can’t believe no one has thought of swapping valve bodies before you. Every single 2003/2004 conversion I’ve seen either buys a new electronic kickdown transmission, or done an output shaft and tail section swap.

I just had a feeling that Toyota wouldn’t make them too different. From an engineering standpoint it makes sense to me that they’d be similar enough to swap. In the end I kinda took my chances but ended up finding a great way to convert, especially since 03-04 transmissions are somewhat difficult to find

I bought my truck new in '03 and it has the 2.7 motor... took it to the local dealer for service. The tech told me my truck was an '02... I asked why he thought so. He told me that 03 & 04's did not have throttle cables.
I'm no Toyota tech but that sounds odd to me.

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
It does boggle my mind honestly. Lol

I’m pretty sure we can use the a340s out of up to 2015 Tacoma 4 cylinders if we really wanted... just swap our valve bodies in.

I was looking at this, it seems a lot easier than you described. Plan on going to find some seats this weekend or next. you have any pics of yours yet?

I wouldn’t trust the way that guy did it because there’s not much holding those seats to the truck. Only a few small beads.

I imagine getting thrown from the truck while still strapped into your seat is marginally better than getting thrown from the truck from not wearing a seat belt lol
