I was changing out my u-joints and I noticed both rear tires spin in the same direction when you turn one or the other. How can I tell if I have a mechanical LSD? I looked at the original window sticker and I don't see it listed there. There is no LSD oil sticker on the pumpkin. It will get sideways on wet pavement though. This is the only marking I could find on the diff. Any ideas?20170524_173806.jpg

its possible, but its also possible that the easiest path of rotation was to spin the whole diff rather than the spider gears and tire the opposite direction.

Whats resistance like when the truck is in park and both rear tires off the ground when spinning one tire to make the other tire go in the opposite direction? (make sure you secure your vehicle when doing so).

If there is little to no resistance you dont have an LSD, if theres a pretty good resistance (spec is like 100-150 ftlbs of force), then you have one.

Based on your year, I believe you do have mechanical LSD. I think they did away with that in the 07-08 range.

Could well be that they changed it to a LSD. Good for you in that case. If you can, just ask them. Short of pulling the pumpkin do what the other guy above recommended to know for sure. If you do have the TRD Sport you should know it has clutches inside that require LSD additive to the gear oil to operate without chatter. In that case drain your diff to be on the safe side and refill it properly. It's a 10 minute job really no big deal

I think you can goto toyota's owner pages and register the vehicle as your own. Do not have to be original owner. I think you can see the invoice with features list there.

It wasn't just the TRD Sport. It was an option on the others as well. My boss had an '06 SR5 with it. I thought about asking him to swap his '06 diff with my '11 diff before he traded it in.

Take a look at all the option combinations: http://www.toyota120.com/GenDocs/2006tacomabrochure.pdf

I don't see the LSD option for a regular cab.

Neither do I. That's the odd thing--seemed to be V6 only. Maybe it was swapped at some point.

Though it's also odd that you wouldn't have the LSD Oil sticker if it does indeed have one.
