Nah still trying to get the money saved up. Spring is around the corner so my one man lawn care business should start up again soon in which case I'll have some money to throw at it.

Me, I learned with a screwdriver in one hand, and pair of cutters in the other, biting down on the soldering iron and practicing in customer's cars for 7 years :)

Basic box building is easy if you can think in 3 dimensions. The more complicated stuff that Italyn is talking about is beyond me too, other than basic port stuff.

Italyn - if you see this, what can you tell me about a box that's got a 42"L 12"x2" rectangular vent in it? Ported box design I got from unofficial tech papers from the sub manufacturer (though this is from 10+ yrs ago)

Cool. You're welcome to use this design/measurements. I still haven't decided on what subs I want but I think I'm going to stay with the 4 kickers or 2 W6's running full power.

Anyone one know what the best orientation would be? For example my old blazer got wicked loud with subs up and port back.

Each vehicle is different, best bet is to experiment. Unless you are competing, however, its probably not worth the time, beyond ensuring that the subs dont cancel each other out with how you have them playing.

As a general rule, same face is the starting place for the port and subs, but it can vary.

Since you will be doing this with limited space and options in the truck, go with what fits and you like the design of.

    I am not Steven, but...

What are you asking? with 24" of port area, and 42" long, how big is the box, and what sub was the design for?

That supercrew sound box is totally not my taste but I'm obviously stuck unless I build something for on the seat. Can't get near enough volume from my subs even with an saz1500d at full tilt, pretty disappointing

Build a single driver box over on the passenger side, should be able to get around 1 cube. Probably not enough for ported, but with that much power, that should rock sealed.

You wouldn't happen to have this in time for the April meet would you? I'm still playing with the idea because I'm going to be dumping a good chunk of change into it with minimal return, I really can't see much of a market for something this extreme, so I'm still open to idea's but it's looking like I'm going to go with 2 10''JL W3's.

Are you reffering to my post in your other thread? FWIW I've had 3 boxes from them and they are all top notch and have the customer service to back them up. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a box from them if they has something along the line's that I'm looking now.

Just an update for anybody watching this I've sold my old sub setup and am going to use that money to get a new head unit because the iPod usb input on my Kenwood KDCX395 shit the bed. It's making a nasty static sound that can be heard throughout the entire listening range but mainly down in the 300Hz below range some day's it's there some day's it isn't. I've got a buyer for it, because everything else works perfect, and am going to sell it and upgrade to a Kenwood KIV-701 because I really like the cleaner look of it and the usb cords out the back rather than the front.

After I get it installed I am going to begin working on new mids and tweets with a set of Polk Audio DXi6500 component set. I was thinking of doing a custom kick panel instal where the speakers are installed behind the kick with a layer of color matched fabric to hide the hole and put some in the doors with deadner to seal them for a total of 4 Polks with only 2 tweets. I will be amping them with a Kenwood X600F. After that I will begin working on the box, I've got the wood in my shop just need to cut it and get amps, subs, and wires. I've decided to go with 2 JL Audio W3v3-4 and a Kicker DX1000.1. It should be pretty sick and finished by the end of the summer. Sound good?

nothing wrong with the construction or customer service from them, but 5/8 mdf is for girls and its just too small to produce the bass im looking for.

I understand that but fwiw all the boxes I've gotten from them were 3/4 mdf.
Tell em about it. The buyer for my subs backed out so I'm thinking I'll just keep them and just save some money to buy the hu. That little kenwood was a trooper though for 4 years it pumped out tunes at high volume everyday just about.

For those that care I still have the shitty sound system but now have a job so it'll all be coming together soon. I've decided to stick with W3's or if the money is good enough W6's. Before I build up the sub box stuff I'm going to deaden my truck and buy a new head unit and speakers I'd like some Hertz Hi-Energies on a nice a/b amp but we'll see what happens I may just hang around the idea of Polk Audio DXi6500 on an amp but again who knows. I know what I want everything to sound like just lacking the funds to do it.

Nice thread, I read you thought about the s-a 8''s ive heard really good things about those bad boys! They are also a fraction of the price of the jl w6's.. I just ordered a DAD KMH 8'' for my taco. Up and coming company im taking a gamble on it, but have heard good things. Go to www.showtimecaraudio.net they have some sweet smaller companies and they are good guys. Check out the box i designed for my 8''. Its a downfiring sealed box. This is the mock- up:
