Check out the second post I'm going to use that to give my current plans if they change I'll add it below. I think that it'll be interesting to watch the progression of the idea. I know for a fact that I will be running Hertz Hi-Energies I may run active if I feel like going through the trouble. This whole thing started as a quest for more punch but has now turned to an audio rebuild build because my current head unit shit the bed after 4 years of pumpin tunes. I want to run either a Kenwood KIV701 or Pioneer 80PRS head unit because they both can run SSD memory which means I can load up my entire library of music in WAV or FLAC format, uncompressed so you don't lose much if any sound quality from the people who made the music so that it'll sound exactly like it was intended to. As of now I have 4-5 of my favorite albums/songs in WAV format and, for example, my "Hootie and the Blowfish Cracked Rearview" takes up about a gigabyte of space so I run it on a separate thumb drive at the moment

Nice. I have the kiv-700 in my truck which is basically the same as the 701 just slightly earlier and I really recommend it. The options on it will have you tweaking the sound for months, its lots of fun to play with and I love the big 3'' lcd screen.

I'm gonna stick with the Pioneer DEH-80PRS just because when I was playing with them today at an audio store it seemed to flow better and the EQ's and TA were better. With the Kenwood the x-overs were front-to-back rather than side-to-side so I'd have to get an external equalizers such as the Audison Bit1 to do timing alignments with. Whereas the Pioneer does side-to-side control so I could adjust for timing alignment while only spending an extra ~$50 I could get 90% of the tuning capabilities of something like the bit 1.

I have no doubts that the Kenwood is an amazing head unit but at this point in my car audio life it's a little basic for what I want to do.

I'm going to be running the Hertz Hi Energy 163 3-way component system on a JL Audio XD600/6 off of a Kenwood KIV919 I think it is for now I'm just going to hang on to the subs I have and next pay check get 2 W6's for that over the seat box.

Kenwood on the way. Getting prices on the Hertz tomorrow gonna call around Myrtle and see if any of these guy's have any Hertz stuff. I'm not very hopeful because most have low end Pioneer, Kenwood, and Alpine stuff on their sites but one may surprise me, kind of hope so because I'd love to have them now than later if only to have in my room for a few weeks.

Fuck no. I'm paying somewhere around 200 for the Hertz 3 way system. My supervisor has been into car audio for a few years and has a connection with a guy who works at the warehouse that supplies audio equipment for websites such as crutchfield and online car stereo so he get's stuff at the manufacturers price completely cutting out every middle man. I chose the Kenwood because I didn't like the knob thing on the Pioneer and love the cleaner look of the Kenwood.

Either keep the headunit you have and get a processor or buy a headunit that can be run active.
Try the subs you have currently before you spend extra money you didn't need to spend.
Tune the hell out of it.
