My speakers are in the process of shitting their beds so for now it'll be passive until I get the extra $1,000 for a processor. I wanted to wait and do it all at once but I can't ride around with it sounding almost worst than stock.

So now I've got the headunit, Kenwood KDC-X996n and am going to install it within the next week. I've been in touch with Mr. Marv about making me a ported box which will hopefully double as an amp rack of there's space. Still planning on a PDX-V9 with Hi-Energy's running 2 channels for tweets and 2 for mid's. Deadning will come soon but I'd like to get everything together then do the deadner, amp and wiring, and speakers install all at one time. Pics and write up/review for everything as I install and have time to play with it all. Bump.

Hertz HSK165XL 2-way component's are on the way. Amp will be purchased in 2 weeks or so along with the box.

Finally got around to installing the new radio. It more by force than choice due to the old on throwing in the towel. Already I'm enjoying the Bluetooth hand's free calling and music streaming. I'm going to do a full in depth review/write-up on the unit after I've had it for a few day's.

Hey man. Just saw your last post. If you're getting the hertz stuff for that good of a price, you should seriously consider opting for the Mille drivers as opposed to the hi energy's. You will be much happier with the tonal quality, and as long as you set your gain structure correctly, the power handling for the HSK165XL and the ML165 will be about the same.

I was thinking about it but I've only heard Mille's on MacIntosh amps and never a digital amp whereas I've heard the Hi-Energies on the Alpine I'm getting and they sound beautiful so I don't want to spend the money then have then not sound the way I want.

I ordered the Hertz, Type-R, and Alpine PDX V9 this morning. Price paid: $322.14 shipped to my front door you gotta love having friends that work in wholesale. Deadner soon then time to install.

Edit: It's 422 shipped. Regardless that's stil a 1/4 retail value for everything.

What type R sub did you get?

the PDXv9 doesn't have enough power to push the Alpine SWR-T12 correctly (if this is the sub you got). The sub wants 600watts RMS, your is doing 500 and I've heard the PDX V9 on the SWR-T12 and it doesn't push it correctly. I have the PDX m6 600watt Mono block amp and its still a bit under powered for this sub as the gain has to be around 65-75% to make the sub thump very hard.

You got a killer deal on the price tho! That amp is more than what you paid for all of the stuff.

Cutting out all the middle men. I'm getting the 10" thin and will be putting it in a ported enclosure.

10 thin has the same spec's as the 12.. ported box will help but that 5 channel amp just won't be able to push it like it should.

I'm disappointing that the 600watt mono block by Alpine doesn't push the sub as it should. I borrowed a Rockford BD1000.1 and obviously it was over kill for one sub, but it hit 2x's harder than the PDX did with no distortion at all.

Good luck, can't wait to see pic's of the setup!

I'm sure. I met the guy at a SQ competition I was at with my friend from NY and they were friends in HS. He works for a warehouse in cali that ships items out for online car audio websites like sonic electronic, online car stereo, etc. They buy from the manufactures and resell, for profit, to the online retailers. Only downside is that it takes 3 weeks to get here.

As long as it can get lower with more authority I'll be happy. My 2 8's will only get to about 60hz before rolling off hard and fast if I can get a flat response down to about 40hz it'll be fine by me.

Download google sketchup to design your box. It's free. It looks like you are just drawing the plans yourself, the sketchup drawing is super easy to do and figure out airspace and all that.

If you want I can draw it up on there for you, it's not hard.

On another note, I have been thinking of building a box similar to this for my 06 access cab. Right now I have a single 12" pioneer in a square ported box just sitting on the seat. I want a sealed box because I just think they sound better. I have no idea what model my speaker is, I got it from a friend. With the measurements you have do you think I can make a single 12 work? It would be downfiring and out of sight hopefully.

Single 12 would be great for the box for the back seat. Look at the magnets on the sub and I'm sure that it'll have a model number you can google for info.

Here's a box mock up for my sub. It fits like a glove and has .7ft^3 port not included so I think I'll have enough air space.
