You could always go for the nascar boom tube out in front of the rear tire...

Edit: With my turbo setup I'm planning on doing a cutout not too far from the front tire if I can manage it. And still have a full exhaust when I don't want to be noticed.

Side pipes are sweet, but damn they’re loud haha. I have gone down that rabbit hole on my other truck and ended up getting a quieter catback for road trips. They are definitely in the plans at some point though but I think I’m going to try to make a removable side pipe with a v-band so you could run the side exit, or take it off and run full exhaust exiting the stock location.

That cutout is a cool idea that will be nice to have options! Looking forward to seeing this come about. are you going to start a build thread?

My buddy has a 90's ford centurion vuck, (half truck half van) with the diesel (I forget which one) and it's got sidepipes. That thing is a riot to ride around in.

Edit: I don't want sidepipes on this truck, but the cutout is definitely in the plans just for peak power. It would be like 4 feet of pipe off the turbo to an open exit somewhere under the front of the cab. Purely for making those sweet ponies sing. Once done romping on it just flip a switch and voila, full exhaust system.

Good evenin yall! Did some upgrades to the truck tonight. I think changing out the clock spring fixed my issue with cruise control not working because now that’s fully functional too, so that was an added bonus. Also I noticed that when turning my lights on that the audio controls are lit up, but they aren’t functional yet. I’m pretty sure I didn’t wire those up to the head unit so that will hopefully be an easy fix. Once the bluetooth/audio controls for the steering wheel i ordered show up i'll take the stereo out and wire it up and program them to the PAC harness adapter.

    - 06 Tacoma leather steering wheel
    - 04-09 Prius clock spring/spiral cable
    - 03-09 4Runner airbag for audio controls

Thanks yeah there is rarely a time when someone else is driving my truck, but it drinks enough gas that i figured it'd be a good thing to have just in case. When are you getting started on building your turbo project? I have some extra stickers if you want one for yours when the time comes, just let me know and i can drop one in the mail for you

Got some stuff knocked out this evening! My new steering wheel controls arrived and I got them installed. After buttoning that back up I took the radio out to see if I could figure out how to get them to work. Turns out I didn’t plug in the 3.5mm jack to the back of the head unit when I installed everything. After that the radio controls worked but only some of them did and they were doing the wrong functions. I checked and I had my PAC controller on the wrong dip switches and it was set for a kenwood. I changed that back to Pioneer and then the steering wheel controls started working properly. Tested them all and now the only one that doesn’t work is the voice button on the right side. Whenever I press the button the PAC controller blinks green and then goes back to red when released just like all the others do that work. So not entirely sure what’s going on there but I’m all ears if someone has some advice on that.

On a side note if anyone is interested in some left side steering wheel controls and the blank for the right side I’ve got some I’ll sell. Also I ended up with an extra cruise control switch if anyone wants one. I’ll let both things go for pretty cheap and ship them, just shoot me a PM.

EDIT: Steering wheel controls & blank and Cruise switch have been spoken for.

Well I’ve been having more issues with the same dang exhaust leak at the joint between the header and the mid pipe. It makes the truck run lean and ping really badly in 3rd gear at 2/3rds throttle and above. I started by flashing the truck back to the more conservative tune I have that adds fuel on the 5th and pulls timing out under boost. That didn’t help at all, and even with the water methanol turned up to spray sooner, it was still pinging very badly in 3rd gear.

So, I took it all apart yesterday and added an extra exhaust gasket (one made for the joint between the catback and the midpipe) for a little more crush, and then lathered up with JB weld extreme heat metallic paste and stuck it back together. I did notice the bolts were a little loose when I took it off so I’m sure that didn’t help my cause.

Anywho, this little exhaust leak has been super frustrating, so I finally had enough and broke down and bought a Primeweld TIG225X, 4” x 2.5” ID flex pipe and 2.5” v-band and flanges. The plan is to teach myself to weld and then cut the BS toyota flange off at the header collector/midpipe, and then add the flex and v-band flanges there so everything finally seals once and for all.

I also have a TRD catback for my v6 that has a 2.5” v-band on the front, so I have been planning on fabbing up a little piece of piping to fit it up to the factory 4 banger mid-pipe since its too short. I bought an extra 2.5” vband to do this and will probably start with this project so i can get some more practice before trying to do the header/midpipe repair.

I'm painfully familiar with that damn gasket/hardware issue. Did it on my old truck and I have to do it on the lowered black beauty now. (Still trying to figure out a name for it...)

Ahhh yeah i have some select words for the toyota engineer that decided on that one.. It has plagued me for a long time. Sounds like im not the only one either, which is even more frustrating! What did you do to get it sorted out on your last truck? Names are tough, i wish i had a good suggestion but unfortunately i am in the same boat with mine haha

My last truck had a stock exhaust system and 250k miles, I think the gasket and hardware gave up after that many miles in Maine. I replaced two broken rubber hangers and replaced the hardware and gasket. Didn't have an issue for the 10k it lasted after that.
