Tore into the old motor tonight and plucked out 6 valve stem caps that i lost somewhere on i-10 while taking the head to get resurfaced. I wouldve bought new ones, but they were out of stock at toyota of boerne and i wanted to get this thing put back together. I am however running up to Boerne toyota tomorrow morning for some seal packing 08826-00100. I ordered some on Amazon but USPS has failed me again so i am gonna pay a little more and just get some from the dealer since they had a tube in stock. Oh and the new head gasket came in today too!

Got the threads for the studs chased, copper coated the head gasket, studs installed, and then dropped the head on there and its torqued down to 80 ft lbs. the factory manual calls for 29 ft lbs, then 90*, and then another 90* so i did 29, 55, and then 80 ft lbs.

About to start on lash adjusters, stem caps, rockers, cams, and then timing chain and cover

Just finished up, took 12 hrs from start to finish. Looking forward to having a day off tomorrow. Hopefully this does the trick, gonna wait till tmrw to start it so the FIPG can set up a little better. Not a difficult job overall, just a ridiculous amount of labor

Got it fired up this morning and no codes or oil leaks but i had a nasty fuel leak on injector four. I pulled the fuel rail out and replaced the lower injector insulators and checked the top ones while i was at it. Found this on injector four, must have been damaged when i removed the fuel rail. Anyways, it was an easy fix, grabbed an o-ring off my other motor’s fuel rail and im in business. 4F3B22B2-3011-476F-AC89-2311C0767C60.jpg

Interesting that your o rings are black. I just replaced mine and they were orange! (Including new ones).
Glad to see everything is back together. Fingers crossed it all goes well!

Yeah it's funny you mention that, the black ones were out of a 2005 and then when i pulled one to replace it from my 2009 motor, it was orange like you said. Seems good so far, but it had a bit of a ticking noise when i first started it up, but that has gone away for now.. hoping that doesnt come back

I wonder if the ticking was from lack of oil in areas. My builder told me I may hear a loud ticking until oil gets circulated everywhere it needs to be and it should go away and be fine after that.

I think you are onto something here. My guess is lack of oil to the lash adjusters. I soaked them in an oil bath prior to install and primed the motor some but i guess it wasnt enough
