You bet! Hoping i can make this happen by year end. Front and rear diffs are what's holding me up. And i havent quite decided if i want 4.88's or 4.56s. Leaning towards 4.56s and stepping down to 285/70R17s since they offer some in SL and i could save roughly 15lbs per corner

 

I don’t check in here often anymore, but man you are killing it. I’m kinda glad I sold my Tacoma, you would have me thinking of nonsense lol.

Build update, motor had some sort of internal component failure and started knocking badly right before i got there Friday, so the turbo build has been tabled for now. The plan now is to put a head gasket on the old motor and put it back in the truck so i can drive it again. Not sure what the long term plan is yet though

I know it’s probably too early to tell but do you think it was caused by the rotrex? My blown 2tr sounded similar and my builder said it looked like cyl 4 overheted and it started beating up the cylinder wall. Granted the truck as far as I know was stock at the time but the radiator was so full of mud/clay I replaced it for a new one so it kind of made sense.

 

I think it was just too much boost on the stock block paired with my driving habits. Pretty sure i fucked myself on this one

 

We pulled the belt and idled it, just for that reason. Not the Rotrex, unfortunately.

 

Yes i think i failed to mention. The video a few posts back was done without a belt on the truck

 

For reference purposes, how much boost were you running? This makes me sad because I really wanna turbo my 2tr as well eventually. I wonder what it’s limit is for boost to keep itself together, or if there is a weak link we can identify.

 

Peak was around 15lbs. If you’re gonna turbo yours, keep it in the 5-7lb range and i think youll be fine.

 

Dayum BOII!! 15 psi is pretty damn strong. This gives me hope still, since I really just miss hearing turbo noises after getting rid of my subaru.

I hope you can get your motor situation solved quickly.. boost is a damn expensive habit but you can always rebuild back stronger.

 

I rode in Torspd’s freinds truck this weekend and his performs damn good for only running 7lbs. He has a BW EFR 6258 for reference. It sounds great too, i totally understand your desire for turbo noises after hearing his lol

 

Hey man, doesn’t it know it’s not a diesel? All kinding aside, that sucks!

 

I’ve been there. Years ago I turbo’d a CBR 600, it was all fun and games until it came apart on me and hosed the back tire with oil. You don’t really boost if you haven’t roasted one.

 

Tear down is going quick. Trans is out, and mostly everything disconnected. Have a few coolant lines, and misc things to disconnect, but then itll be ready to pull next weekend and hopefully drop the old one back in. Valve train looked okay as expected, so problem is likely in the bottom end. Havent drained the oil yet or pulled the pans. Probably will do that once i can get it on the stand
