You've made excellent progress so far! Keep it up.

Once you tear into the other engine, it should make itself known. I am curious if it is indeed rod bearing, crank bearings, or counter-shaft bearings...?

getting ready to pull the head now. Then it’ll be time to tear down the 270k motor and seal it back up with the newer head and gaskets

Surprised that you are doing that in your engine bay. Got to work where the duty requires though. Get 'er done!

Thanks man, I’ve hit a few minor bumps but it’s going relatively smoothly considering all the shit that has to come apart
lol you mean most people don’t throw in a motor with 270k? :D

itll only be n/a for the time being, but I’ll just be stoked to be able to drive the truck again

new head on and torqued down, cams in, and timing set. Swapped guides and chain while I was in there. Been wrenching steady since 1215, so I’ll start tomorrow by installing the timing cover and then sealing up the oil pans. Then all itll really need is the intake manifold, coolant bypass pipe, and clutch/flywheel and then itll be ready to drop in the truck5087EA01-A3CD-4DF0-8185-9CBC172FE1C5.jpg

For a one man band, you have made great progress!

Now hurry up and finish and check the rods on the engine that you pulled out ! :D

Oh yeah, and have a few beers. You've earned them!

You shouldn’t care what others want you to do to / with your own truck. I say FI 4.0L or one of those GM LS things. They are actually smaller & come in various sizes 4.8L that can spin 7k plus to 7.0L and they all use the same block. In alloy they are 109lbs or iron they come in at 219lbs. & can make a lot of HP in a NA platform. Plus now that some want to control countries that no longer belong to them Gas Prices Are Going Through The Roof! Pushing small low HP motors drink lots of fuel where just a light throttle application on bigger better suited engines uses less petroleum! You have a medium duty truck that weighs a lot more than the first Toyota trucks did.
Your life & truck do as you please…

Got a lot of stuff lol
Just a heads up my exhaust leaked when I had my turbo stuff on and it sounded like a head tick. Once I was working on the v8 stuff I went back to stock and the tick went away. Not saying it's that but I never suspected the exhaust lol

Thanks for the tip, im gonna swap gaskets on the header tmrw but if that doesn’t fix it, it’s not looking good. It appeared to be a lot quieter before it was warmed up though, so maybe that would point to the exhaust

Hard to tell on video, but certainly sounds like it could be exhaust.
