Sweet, she looks nice and clean. Good to be a built engine?

Kind of a funny coincidence but I just picked up my 1gr today.

Going to be a giant paperweight for a while and eventually a built engine hopefully.

Don't think so, but you never know. I am supercharged but the possibility of twin charging has crossed my mind with a rear mounted turbo.

It is super clean for sure. I need to track down some paint for the block but other than that it’s like new.

This one is going to get a head gasket, ARP head studs, upper oil pan swap, and a general refresh and then it’s going in the truck. Then the plan is to pull my old block out and build that one for 20-25psi.

Haha that’s a strange coincidence for sure! What did yours come out of?

Everyone needs a turbo. Doesn’t your truck have a magnuson as well? I am itching to get rid of my maggy after seeing how my 4cyl turbo performs:D

Engine came from a wrecker sight unseen. 2015 Tacoma, looks clean enough and got it for a hard to pass up price.

    @BassAckwards / Robert,

You are surely welcome! Did you have Andy turn on the key to verify the 36,109 miles? Also sorry about the rust on the block but the truck was from NC. LCE installed the Magnuson otherwise I would have wire brushed the block and hit with some paint.
If you’re missing anything please let me know and I will contact Andy to have him send it to you. And sorry about the fuel injectors looks like Dyno Comp in Scottsdale didn’t give a crap when they changed them out‼️
    :frusty:

But I’m really curious how the inside looks with all the water meth that went through the engine. Hell it used 2 gallons from the drive from Mesa AZ to Sunset TX. Hit the hills and you could see the boost start climbing and apparently the system started injecting the mix at 2lbs per Gabe.

That should be a great starting point! Are you going to do the Brian Crower stroker kit eventually?

I did not, but by the look of your truck and everything else that came out, I’ll take your word for it! Everything was super clean. No worries on the block being a little rusty, that is kind of inevitable. That’s easy enough to get cleaned up

I will keep you posted if anything is missing but I think it’s all pretty complete.

I’ll post up pics once I get the head removed, but I popped the valve cover off last night to have a peek. Still looks factory fresh!

I have seen this. It performs extremely well. There is still room up front for a turbo too though.

Yeah, Andy sent me a photo of the Flywheel and it was fairly rusty too! Actually I was surprised it was that rusty.
As for it being clean well it was when I left AZ but the drive covered the front with bugs and the three or so miles of dusty dirt road to Andy’s place my little white baby was filthy. I really wanted to wash it before moving it into his garage.
Also there’s right at 2k miles on the oil and I’m pretty sure Andy didn’t drain the oil so it has about 6 quarts of Mobil 1 in it still… Sorry about that.

*Edit* Did the engine have the plastic bypass tube still?

Hoping for the Crower kit minus the crank since it sounds like the stock crank is forged and more than adequate from the info I'm finding. Trying to see about getting the block sleeved with Darton sleeves but there's only a couple places in Canada that do it so have to make some inquiries soon.

I also need time for my wallet to recover because I went a little hog wild lately on mods hahaha

Yeah the R155 doesn’t seal up very well so there is moisture that gets in there. Here’s one I pulled out that looked like it had been under water lol. That dirt road did seem to go on for a good bit, if you aren’t used to it I bet it felt like forever! Don’t sweat it on the oil I will start out draining it once I get it on the stand. Both pans have to come off anyways for the turbo oil drain.

Yes it does have the plastic coolant bypass pipe. I should have an extra floating around here somewhere. I just need to find it.. if I can’t I have a metal one on the motor in the truck
    2742D793-88DB-4575-BD2D-65E2DD48198C.jpg

There will definitely be some ongoing 2TR activities in here. Feel free to pull up a chair:thumbsup:
Yeah I bet finding someone willing to do the sleeves will be tough. Seems like the way to go though to eliminate the weaknesses of the factory open deck design. Should be bulletproof when you’re done! Lol I feel you on that, my wallet has been in quite a bit of pain lately

I have a magnuson on my mine, but I’d like more power. I was reading @Torspd ’s thread on the single turbo with the cross over pipe and that interests me.

That thread is what started the snowball in here lol. I don’t blame you at all, it interests me too. Kelford makes turbo cams for the 1GR as well if you want to go down that rabbit hole:D

Do you know if a set of short tube headers can be mounted to face forward?

Not that I know of. @Torspd can build you a manifold though. That’s the route I’d go. The one he built for me out of 321SS has been super solid
