Catching up on this thread now that I have a manifold on order. I appreciate you documenting this journey as well as you do. One of the main reasons my build is moving forward. Thanks man!

Wonder if that is the new designed temp, or if it was a flaw? Weird.

I guess he added too much hot sauce to a conversation. He did like to get spicy. Lol

I'm inclined to think fan clutch. I'm having the same on my Tacoma it'll hit 194 when idling. Cools down when moving. I prefer it to be in the 180's. Was looking at a new asisn fan clutch to test.

I think it was a flaw as my old t-stat was the same and it ran 10-15* cooler. It was supposed to be a 180* t-stat but it seemed to me like it just wasnt opening all the way. I might test it in a pan of hot water along side the 170 i have laying around. Definitely strange and it made me nervous having temps close to and over 200 on the new engine.

    Lol that he did!! :D
I thought it was just an air pocket in the cooling system at first, but i got it bled out well and it would do the same thing. Temps would stay at 199-205 while cruising 55+ mph. No hotter while idling or at a stop either. After swapping back to my old 180* t-stat the issue went away immediately. Fan clutch would probably be a good preventative maintenance item as mine has 316k now. Speaking of which, how are you liking the fan adapter/Nissan fan on your truck? Worthy upgrade for those of us who dont want to go e-fan?

It’s a quality piece of work. I can’t speak highly enough about his stuff. Do you have a turbo in mind already?

Tor recommended the 7064 and that’s the plan if I don’t find something better. It seems like a solid choice. You mentioned that your 7163 stays in vacuum while cruising so I’m hoping to match that. The difference between the two units seems small so fingers crossed. Still doing my homework though. How soon are you able to build boost?

My 7163 used to stay in vacuum when I had the 5.29 gears, but with the stock 4.10s and larger tires, it is building 1-2lbs on the hwy at 75-80mph.

I am able to start building boost before the engine wants it which is below 2500rpm. I try to keep from loading up the motor at low rpm, you can tell when it’s unhappy. These 4 cylinders like to turn rpms. At 2500rpm though, it will be at like 5lbs and by 2600-2700 it’s at full boost which is 7-8lbs. You will want to get an adjustable wastegate like one from turbosmart if that’s not on your list already. Mine came with a nonadjustable 14psi wastegate.

The 7064 and 7163 look to be quite similarly sized so I bet it would work well. Might be in low boost under cruise though depending on gearing and tire size

I wouldn't say it is "bad" at all. It is simply how the torque is delivered from a centrifugal s/c.

What size tires are you running? it sounds like the 2tr still doesn’t like load around 2500 rpm even with boost. Does it start to get happy at a similar rpm as if n/a?

Exhaust wise it would. Since is doesn't effect that. I don't see why it wouldn't work with an auto.
