Yeah the URD kit isn’t bad, it’s an upgrade over stock drivability, it just doesn’t compete with the torque delivery that a small turbo offers in comparison, it's mostly top end hp.

Depending on what type of turbo you go with, you'll need a tee for an oil supply, if you have an aluminum center housing, you will need some coolant lines (i bypassed the TB and used those), and then also a drain bung on your upper oil pan for the oil return. Other than that, some way to tune the truck, and then a downpipe to mate up to your current exhaust will be needed as well. Some heat abatement goodies would also be a solid upgrade to keep things in the engine bay happy. I used exhaust wrap for the downpipe and reflective tape on the valve cover and top of the hood. I also used some PTP heat wrap around the wire loom, and that stuff needed to be moved away from the downpipe a bit.
I am running 285/75/17 which is almost a 34 (like 33.8"). Yeah mine doesnt like to be loaded up below 2500rpm. Yes i'd say around 25-2600 rpm is when it starts to sound happy again, very similar to how it behaves when n/a and you're lugging it in too high of a gear.

Yeah im using a MAPECU3 and their AFR adjust module. I have mine set to pull quite a bit of timing out under boost (a smidge more around peak tq as well) just to be on the safe side.

If you want reliability, my advice is to buy once, cry once, and get a quality turbo. It will spool and perform better as well. I have about 15k miles on my BorgWarner and it hasn’t skipped a beat. A coworker of mine rode with me recently and said it sounded like a diesel truck lol.

Borgwarner and Garrett are a couple of good ones that were recommended to me when I was looking. They are more spendy, but definitely worth it for the peace of mind imo. I have read too many bad stories about eBay turbos giving up the ghost shortly after install.

I'm running a BorgWarner EFR 7163 on mine, and i have ridden in a truck with a BW EFR 6758. They both perform quite similarly, with mine starting to build boost just a little bit later.

Here are a couple of Garrett's that i was considering while shopping around before i went with the BW.
    GTX 2871R

This one might be a little bit big for what you want to do, but you'd have room to grow

One thing that hasnt been mentioned that i missed on my original list, is you're going to want some sort of a front mount intercooler to help keep intake temps to a minimum. I can grab you some measurements later off of what mine has on it from the URD SC kit.

The urd used a big core and then had mounts modified to fit in the taco. I can get you some measurements on dimensions later if you’re interested in something similar.

if you go with the BW EFR, it has a recirculation valve built in, so nothing additional needed there. I am running the HKS BOV that came with the URD SC kit and the one in the Turbo just for a little added redundancy in case something fails. Only one is needed from what I understand. They help to keep air from traveling backwards in the intake piping whenever the throttle closes suddenly, which is not good for the turbo

Let's not forget the Borg Warner EFR 7064.

@Brian422 , the beauty of the BorgWarner (BW) EFR turbos, is that they come all inclusive. Depending on how you choose it. As in, it has an integrated blow-off valve, and can have an integrated wastegate. Which then means you don't need to buy extra components. Nor do you have to try to find a way to mount the extra components.

A solid choice as well. I think @Taco47 is going with that one. Having everything all in one sure does make things easier! I would recommend going with an internally wastegated setup, that will save you a big headache when it comes to the exhaust work.

    Hi guys,

Curious as to what torque figure you are achieving with your turbo set ups.
    Regards
    Nathan.

I can’t say for sure as I’ve never had the truck on a dyno. The drivability is fantastic compared to the stock setup though even with 34 inch tires and stock gears
