now I’m wondering how my truck will behave with similar boost. I’m on 33” with 4.88s so I’m usually at 3k rpm at cruise. I might want to increase my tire size when it’s all said and done. Do you find the 4.10 ideal for that initial resistive load to build boost similar to pulling a trailer? I imagine the 5.29 was able to easily climb rpms but not build boost the same?

Mine never really had issues building boost quickly with either gearing combination. The power band was pretty violent with the 5.29s, it just ran out of gear on the top end. The 4.10s tamed it down a bit but still, when the boost comes on, it wants to just motor along.

the biggest difference I noticed between the two was the ability to keep the truck in vacuum in 5th gear more easily on the hwy with the 5.29s. Even though it was turning several hundred more rpms at cruise, the engine was under less load overall I guess

Hopefully I enjoy some of that violence. That or bigger tires because I do not want to redo my gears.

The 33s and 4.88s with the turbo should be a pretty nice combo. That’s probably what I should’ve stuck with as I had 4.88s at one time with 33s while still n/a. I might be dropping down to a 285/70r17 to save some weight. My 34s are heavy at 64.4 lbs each

Gave the truck a wash for the first time in probably 6 months or more. Detailed the interior too. She cleans up pretty good for a 14 year old truck other than the seasoning on the paint!

Well that didn’t last long. Truck is ticking like a bitch. Got home and pulled the valve cover and looks like I have a bad lifter or two on the intake cam. Ready to light this fucking pile on fire

Lifters were the used ones that came with the motor that had 36k on them. I put them in an oil bath and bled them before installing.

Ah. I would rec new lifters with a 24hr oil bath. Drain your crank case too and inspect for debris.

Yeah I’m gonna have to take some time and figure out what I want to do. This has me wanting to jump ship completely though. I am losing interest in wrenching on this thing

That would be awesome but I don’t think I’m going to be that fortunate. Sounds identical to this and this was a lifter issue I had previously

Yeah I’ve never heard of a lifter failing like this. Hopefully everything is ok with the rest of the engine.

If new lifters don’t fix this, then unfortunately I think this will be the end of the road for me and the 2TR.

Ordered a new set of lifters to the tune of around $450. I really hope I can get the cams out without pulling the timing cover. The chain tensioner has caused me issues with this in the past though.. fingers crossed this turd will be roadworthy again soon

Just swapped out downpipes and no change in the ticking. I checked the bolts on the header flange yesterday and the rest of the connections are v-bands so I think I’ve ruled out exhaust leaks.
