That sucks man I hope you get it sorted with not much issue. For what it’s worth I did have two instances where I had a tick on my 3rz. First was the cam tension mechanism on the chain that I forgot on reassembly. Second was the balance shaft bearing failing because it was previously over heated. I disconnected the balance shaft chain and it went away.

Hmm. Maybe that could be the case on his two? Blasted balancing shafts. Grrr

    No worries there amigo

Thanks for the info! That is good to know I’m going to try and inspect what I can with the timing cover back on but I’m hoping to leave that alone..

Yeah im kinda at a loss as to what could be causing this. Everything looked great when I had it apart

I drained the oil today and didn’t see much when looking at the stuff coming out of the pan, but when I emptied the filter out, there was quite a lot of shimmer in the oil coming out of there. Might drop the lower pan tomorrow and have a look but haven’t decided yet. I am concerned there is a bottom end issue that’s causing top end oil pressure issues. The truck has 70lbs of oil pressure though on initial start up and more than 10lbs per 1k rpms so I’m not sure what’s going on. Doesn’t seem like all is well anymore though

Lone time lurker. But after reading this yesterday we couldn’t help but to sign up to say sorry. Maybe go for a 1GR or a Chevy like you said earlier. IDK just wishing you better luck!

It’s at 70psi cold idle? Double check but once warmed it should be 4.2psi idle and 25-70psi at 3k rpm.

It’s around there right when you first turn the truck on, after that it comes down some, I don’t think this is an oil pressure problem though. It was always around that with the old motor too.

I think there is something else amiss here that has caused the lifters to fail

Doesn't the VVT-i complain with a code if it can't get the pressure it needs. I wonder if a collapsed lifter just started wiping a cam lobe out, might be an easy top end fix. Would explain the glitter in the filter too

That I’m not sure of, but it has not thrown any codes up to this point. Do you have any idea as to why a lifter would collapse like that out of the blue? An issue with the internal check valve possibly?

I would love if this was an easy fix with new set of lifters but I am trying not to get my hopes up

Modded this lawn art yesterday. Duals are back on display now lol. Welded an extension and male v-band on my 3” catback so I could reinstall my TRD catback on the v6. Now both trucks are quiet again and I don’t have to go deaf on the daily drive

The VVT actuator will make a knocking sound if it doesn't have proper oil pressure.

You'll find the fix, I know it.

It does seem odd that your truck really prefers that one engine though, doesn't it?

Thanks Chad! I’m hoping so too

Thanks for the kind words. It does seem strange that it likes the old motor though lol, I was thinking about that yesterday. I guess if all else fails, old faithful can go back in while I figure out a long term plan

Hey Guys I’m back once and for all. It’s a very long story that I prefer not to talk about it anymore as I want it behind far behind me! My advice is be careful who you give advice to…

Now I just want to apologize to @BassAckwards for the engine failure/issues‼️ Robert this is why I said I was worried about selling you the engine. Looks like Brother Murphy Law is a good friend of both of us! I called LCE and spoke to one gentleman who knew me but I didn’t remember him. He said that their engine builder was off work until Monday but he said that they will have him call me on Monday. Again you all don’t have any idea how bad I feel for this gentleman. When I needed advice this gentleman would answer my stupid questions and believe me guys I asked a lot. Like when I installed the Snow water meth kit. I read and read the instructions but looks like I read the instructions and they went into my eyes and right out my ears. This gentleman said Randy the system is siphoning and gave me a link to the part I needed then explained where to install it? I’m so F***ing stupid Duh… Again Robert if there’s any thing I can do please ask‼️

Welcome back Randy. I’ll keep you posted, but I’m hoping the lifters take care of things. If not I might be jumping ship entirely
