Found this in the vvti filter this morning so I put the engine on the stand and dug a little deeper. Didn’t take long to find wear on the #2 main bearing after tearing it down. Unfortunately I think this is the end of the road for me and the 2TR. After my original engine dies, I will be going another route.

    Robert,
Now I must have to admit I’m no expert by any means! But that doesn’t look like a wear issue, looks like something foreign inside the engine. :notsure:

I've done a mod or two
That a really abnormal scar on that bearing, doesn't look like enough wear on it to be making that noise either... usually mains don't make the tapping/knocking noise, check rod bearings.

I'd be curious to see a endplay check on that crank. Thrust issue or something making that one side of the main bearing get pressured?

Looks like contamination and not from the oil supply channel.

Technically, he does have a good lower end from another block. This one seems to have a good head. Swap swap, and good engine. :D

I was thinking a bottom mount turbo would be a bit easier to fabricate vs having to run piping between both banks. Any reason why i havent seen this more?

I have been wanting to do this. Just need a truck long enough to make this happen. It is tight though.

Definitely need a scavenging pump system but still easier to fab than a dual bank twin turbo setup in my opinion. Only issue is low water crossing and contaminants. But for a purely street vehicle it shouldnt be an issue. You can tuck it all up above the frame and itll be tight to run the return piping but overall easy to deal with in general

I honestly have too many bolt ons, tranny upgrades invested at this point including solid engine mounts (that i probably spent too much on) that its hard to sway an ls swap. Plus the fun to have a boosted 1grfe?! Ive honestly looked into boosting for years but love my spec u headers too much to rid of them.. and there is a ton of room on the passenger underside I could fit a snail into... Love LS dont get me wrong but something absolutely disgusting about having a boosted 1grfe that I cant get my mind off of.

Well @Torspd is the resident expert about that‼️

*Edit* Oh, if you want to keep your headers then the OP of this thread might be selling his Magnuson supercharger system. IDK but I’m pretty sure he’s thinking of Turbocharging his 1GR…

Yup. I'll be making a couple more 1GR turbo manifold/exhausts soon.

How difficult is the tuning process compared to the supercharger? Is it something I can get a baseline drivable tune over the internet like the supercharger?

People have used the TRD s/c tune running a turbo setup, as long as they kept the power from the turbo within the same range and the TRD tune was for the s/c setup. Worked just fine.

OTT by @JustDSM had tuned a few turbo kits with HPTuners and maybe their current format. With great results.

His tuning was done with upgraded injectors, upgraded fuel pump, and OEM FPR, on the kit that I built.

They were tuned like most of the s/c setups he's performed.

There also Gabe at SNP he specializes in Toyota’s, former employee @ LCE. My prototype Magnuson 2TR system was finally able to get turned by Gabe using Halteck. He can remote tune if you have Windows laptop and he’s really good. From my experience the tune is one of the most important parts. But I’m not an expert by any stretch of the imagination! Just a customer.
