it's put together kind of shitty. rough bondo edges, and poorly crafted body shapes. looks okay from a distance or moving but up close it's kinda crappy. IMO

Tacoma with some stuff melted to it
Also the price the car went for had nothing to do with how well the car was put together or how nice it was, all of the value was due to the history of the car

    What do you expect?
It was a 1950's concept car that was bought for a buck and built into the prop in 15 days.

The Batmobile, the Monkee's car, Green Hornet, Back to the Future....

They're props for a show. They were not built with the thought that they would be preserved, duplicated, and even sold 40 years later.
They were not built any better than any other prop for any other show. They were built well enough to look good on camera.

The price will probably get written off on taxes as an advertisement expense so we will all pay for it in the long run.

You do understand how a tax writeoff works, right?

Write off 4.2 million and it only cuts your tax by about 1.2m under 2012 rates.
And that deduction needs to offset income... it's not just a freebie.
If you pull 4.2 million out of the bank and you are living off of money you have stashed in the bank, you aren't paying taxes on anything except the interest so you would not be able to deduct the entire amount anyways.

Got to see it at Barrett Jackson.

Looked like piece of junk but guess its worth a lot in historical value.

Guy who bought it is kinda famous for being a douche I hear

Thanks for explaining that. I didn't know how a tax writeoff works. I've never done taxes before. So it only cuts 1.2m off your taxes. Well now I feel alot better.

A lot of people believe that.
Adding to the confusion is that some states use "credits" rather than "deductions".
If I donate $300 to Calguns, that takes $300 off of my taxable income (saves about $50). If I rent, California gives me a $200 "renter's credit" and that takes $200 directly off of my state income tax (and don't quote me on the number, I haven't received that credit since 1994).

If it makes you feel any better, the guy able to save 1.2m on his taxes probably pays triple our mortgage payment just in property taxes ;)

Sarcasm detected in the text you quoted Rich and a little directness in your response. But, beyond the mentality of saving on taxes being some sort of crime...it seems no one pointed out that the seller and auction house will pay taxes on income related to the sale of the Batmobile. Let alone the fact that the new owner has already been taxed on the money spent for the purchase of it...

Agreed, but I wanted to be clear because there is a younger segment of the forum that does not understand either deductions or marginal rates.
Comments like "I got a raise last year but now I make less"
At least the sales taxes are deductible :D

I always wondered how he came up with the design. After reading what it was based on, it's remarkable how little he changed from the base car.
