I got a Walmart one when my OEM one died. I got an amp, sub, light bars, ditch lights etc. been good for two years now. And with a Walmart within five minutes in any direction, easy to replace if needed.

I replaced mine at 5 years with an Interstate MTP-24F.

As of May 1, 2019, the warranty period for all MTP-series batteries is 30 months free replacement, followed by a prorated amount of 45% between months 31-48, 25% between months 49-60, and 10% between months 61 and 72.

As previously mentioned, a 27F size battery is a viable option for G3s that have a winch and/or other high draw electrical equipment. A 27F battery is supposed to fit right into the G3 TACO with the OEM tray 74431-35040/74431-0C020 from the G2 TACO with tow package option which had the 27F battery. The 27F Northstar X2 is the same price as the 24F but offers more capacity/RC. The only real down side I see is the 27F is 68lbs. where as the 24F is 57lbs. The G2 tow package battery tray costs $40. I am considering this option.

Some people have convinced themselves that 11lbs will somehow bend the body panels that support the battery, lmao. I've wheeled my truck pretty hard (Rubicon, Moab) after installing my 27f, no issues, as solid as when I installed it. Highly recommend going 27f...i went with 27f instead of dual batteries, as I can jumpstart my battery from my jackery.

I’ve had good luck with deka batteries, after issues with optima’s in my jeep. I run deka intimidator agm’s in my taco and Cummins and haven’t had a single hiccup. That being said they best experience I’ve ever had was the oem Panasonic battery that came in my 05 power wagon that was still in it in 2018 when I got rid of the truck.

Currently have an Odyssey AGM, group 34R.
I've had it for about 3 years in multiple vehicles
Work takes me out of town for 20 days in a row every month, it's always started strong when I get back.

I like AGM because they don't corrode battery terminals and handle weather extremes better

If you go AGM, look into the charge voltage issues. AGM's need a higher voltage than a standard LA battery for to charge fully

I think you will find it if you search "AGM Tuning"

I've heard alot of bad things about Optima after they moved production outside the US, I do not have any personal experience with Optima though

Here's a thought, just buy the cheapest Walmart battery for your truck 570-600CCA, clean and keep the terminals clean by applying silicone sealant all around the terminal posts, trickle charge it overnight once in a while (1-3 Mo.) and don't make a habit of draining it by running accessories while the engine is off to get 5yrs of battery life.

Or, just buy a cheap battery jumper with the spare change saved and just live the vida loca.

Couldn't care less about rock crawling. All I want to do is get in and out of the outdoors safely while hunting/shooting/fishing/hiking. Spending 150+ days afield each year in retirement, the TACOs will see a lot of use before I am done. The more I look at it, the more just another large capacity, preferably sealed lead acid battery appeals to me. Modifying the OEM charging system to achieve the minimum charging voltage required for an AGM battery is just not worth it on the 3G, at least until it is out of warranty. As is the norm, using the KISS principle is usually a very good choice.

Best thing to do is replace the battery, clean the posts and apply dielectric grease to the posts and connectors. Rarly ever have an issue after that. the grease is like 8 bucks for a tube and will last a lifetime

I would avoid Optima. Bought one this spring, and lately was having issues with random dimming etc. Decided to check terminals, and clean. Went to remove the neg. terminal and it just twisted off. I was only using a 1/4 ratchet, so minimal torque from me. I suspect corrosion? Either way, this will be my last Optima.

Edit...the gouge marks on the terminal are from me trying to reset the terminal back in place.

Yes I agree that does work great, and I do that.
But I like that I don't have to worry about it

I remove my battery terminals pretty often, constantly messing with electrical stuff like radios.
It's convenient to not have to make a mess with dielectric grease or be concerned with those little felt washers.
If I used the vehicle to drive to work every day and maybe going fishing on the weekends that would be great.
But the whole reason I own the vehicle is long distance, remote, cold, road trips.
Agm really shines in those conditions

AGMs are great batteries but they are no "free lunch". Northstar AGMs require 14.4-14.8V to fully charge. It is stated right on the battery label. At 13.8 V at idle & 14.0 V revved, my 2020 TRD charging system is well short of the required charging voltage for an AGM. I would have to put the AGM on a charger to bring it to full capacity. Once off the charger, the battery would deplete to whatever level my charging system is capable of maintaining. Without increasing the charging voltage on my 3G, an AGM will only be maintained at a partially charged state. This thread contains the information needed for a good understanding of what it takes to keep a NorthStar AGM battery at full capacity in your TACO: The NorthStar AGM Battery + Voltage Booster Upgrade | Tacoma World

Grain Co. and Feed Mill here in southeastern IL. only puts Interstate batteries in there field spreader's and livestock feed delivery trucks. Only battery that will take the beating out in the corn/bean fields here.
