I’m preparing to go on a couple week trip and figure I’m going to be pressed for room. I have a Goose Gear rear seat delete and that area will be taken up by our lab and a lithium secondary battery. I also have a Diamondback cover on the bed.

My question is, has anyone used the secondary battery area under the hood at the passenger side firewall to install a battery box that is full of tools? I’d be interested in how you secured the box and what box you’re using. Thanks!

What is this secondary battery area you speak of?

You can fill the bed up quickly when you start with a 76L fridge and 2 Jerry cans.

Some people are using that area to install a second battery. There are a few companies who offer a battery bracket for that spot.

Because I’m using a lithium battery and those don’t operate in the heat of the engine bay.

I mean, a basic tool box doesn't take up that much room...

But if you really want to go nuts and utilize the space, measure dimensions of the area and buy the appropriate camco battery box to fit.

Yep, I get it. But what you have and what I have is much different. Try what you do with this. The vertical space is not the same.

That’s an interesting idea. I guess the biggest problem would be keeping it safe from the engine heat. I never even realized there is enough space there for a battery.

idk how often youll be using the tools but its a pain in the neck to have storage under the hood. maybe make/find a slim case to go under the seat

I’ve got an ARB twin air compressor under the passenger seat. I’m only looking to use this space when I’m off on an extended trip.

maybe take some ideas from this video and adjust it to your location. make a bracket out of something, drill some holes in the case, attach, done.

Ahh yeah, I had the same problem w the trifold bed cover. I would’ve hoped the Diamondback was better, but the reality is, the Tacoma’s shallow bed is handy for loading and unloading, but capacity sucks, especially with how the fri folds sit in the bed opening. I went w a fiberglass topper which greatly increased room.
