Looks great...hope to see a set for the 2.7. I realize you selected cable with more application-appropriate insulation and adequate current-carrying capacity, so I'm sorry if you've already answered, but are the gauges you use an upgrade over stock? If so, are there any noticeable enhancements, like easier starting, brighter headlights, better able to handle accessory lighting/winches, or is this essentially an OEM replacement?

I just got it ready to install tonight. I will fit it tomorrow morning. The gauges I'm using are an upgrade, especially on the grounds. OEM battery ground is about a 4 gauge and I'm using 2 gauge. Chassis ground and alternator cable on mine are 6 gauge which is bigger than stock. I'm using 8 gauge on the battery to fuse block where the OEM was about 10 gauge.

I will begin building sets tomorrow and will send them in order by responses in the thread. It may take a couple days to get to you but I will.

The SGX (+) battery cable is a tricky install and may not be for everyone. It's the best but it is more difficult to route. I am switching to BLACK #2 Flex-A-Prene by default (because I have a bunch of it). Anyone who wants red or black SGX can have it - Just know that you've been fairly advised. It is harder to work with. They carry the same current.

I installed the loom on the starter side like it was OEM. Here's how I did it on the alternator side:

    upload_2021-10-5_14-59-14.jpg

The old stuff was chewed up and I just used what I had laying around. I don't use split loom on my Porsche stuff so this is all I had.

You will notice that neither the battery ground is loomed, nor the alternator cable. Since the alternator cable I'm using is bigger and stiffer than OEM, it can't turn back on itself in the loom like OEM. I would have loomed the ground cable but didn't have a long piece of new 7/8 split loom (like the short section on the right).

The alternator cable will not be the OEM length as a result of the above explanation. It will be about 16". Here's how that works:

I'm greasy as a pig and wore slick. I forgot how fun it is putting the skid plates back on. I did all this without jacking it up in the back yard laying on cardboard in the grass. It wasn't too bad really. With the kind of cable and wire I used, that should be the last time I ever have to do that again on this truck.

After I get a couple sets made tomorrow, I will go through direct messages and begin taking orders. Thanks everybody.

I've got a 2001 4Runner engine in my Tacoma so that's a big 10-4. Send me a PM when you are ready.

All the OEM cables on my '96 are still fine after 415,000 miles and 25 years. Did just replace the battery hold down (with OEM) a few weeks ago.
When/if needed I will just replace with OEM as expect there're still some out there.

I hope I've made 50 posts now because three of these kits are shipping out today. I'm officially closing the window for the $120 deal on the forum as of midnight tonight now that the listings are live on ebay. If I neglected to PM anyone, please PM me. I will honor the $120 deal for anyone who responds that they want a set in the forum (or has responded), before midnight tonight, even if they are not getting them at this time. Thanks for the feedback everyone. Next I begin prototyping my version of the Tundra Big 3 and the Taco 2.4/2.7 kit...

Well, I took a small leap - put up a site. I've got a bunch of stuff left to add to it and more will be coming. Thanks again everyone.

First set of 2.4/2.7 cables are done. They are officially for sale and will be on my website and ebay later tonight or tomorrow. Anyone who already PM'd me is in at $120 shipped.

A big thank you goes to col. sandurz for sending a good OEM harness for me to reverse-engineer. He's getting the first set of new ones in return.

Here's the difference in 2.7 OEM battery cables versus these:

Tundra Big 3 is next (finally).

These look fantastic! Nice work! I'll have to check under the hood of my truck to see if I need new cables.
