I have 2010 TRD tocoma sport. I have a bad corrosion problem on the pos battery cable. Truck would not start this morning.
About every 4 months I have to clean the battery cable and terminal.
Today Sunday February 8th I can see that corrosion has eaten away part of the battery cable copper terminal. I make sure all the connections are tight and I have applied corrosion prevention red compound to all the terminals. What could be causing this problem.

    Thanks for any help
    Terry

Clean them good and then spray them with Fluid Film. Works like a charm.

Clean and cover with dialectic grease. Autozone sells small packs near register.

Get the battery and alternator checked. If it's off gassing that much there could be an issue.

A loose connection can facilitate corrosion on the terminals. Clean the terminals, and make sure the connections are tight.

You need to replace the battery as the factory seal between the battery case and the lead terminal has most likely failed. Also replace any cables or terminals that have been effected and clean all vehicle surfaces with a baking soda water mix prior to installing new battery.

i run ALOT of high current devices and had an extremely bad problem like you are having, a mechanic friend told me to clean very well, then keep a coat of oil or even vasoline on the terminals, works perfectly! no problems since, also make sure your not running the batt so hard it gets hot and the battery acid is bubbling out. check battery fluid level

    cheers,
    disco

Had this same issue on my wife's mustang

Had the battery replaced - warranty

Unbeknownst to me ... The tech pulled a battery out of a new car in the prep area and put in my wife's car... He must have jerked the cables off because the positive terminal had a crack around the back which was hard to see but I was seeing green acid buildup every few months

Took the pos cable off one morning for another cleaning and it was rather hot that day and I could see the crack where the vapor was leaking from

Ended up having to replace the battery and the cable end also because I didn't look in the first place

Baking soda and water is your friends

I would just clean the hell out of it if not a new battery and then Coat it with a bit if chain oil or something

There are a number of things that can cause battery lug and terminal corrosion. For more information on maintaining your battery, see Section 3 in the Car and Deep Cycle Battery FAQ found on www.batteryfaq.org.
