I have a 2010 Tacoma double cab off road 4X4. It has 39,200 miles. I have not left any lights or any other known battery draining devices hooked up in the truck. The battery was acting weak yesterday so I put it on a charger and within 4 mins it was completely charged. I took it off the charger and drove it around for about 15 mins. This morning when I was leaving for work the battery was completely dead. Barely had enough juice to make the starter click. Besides the battery, IS THERE ANYTHING ON THE TRUCK THAT COULD BE CAUSING THIS?? I.E. bad fuse, short, etc.?

Just curious if anyone else had a similar problem. It seems way too soon to be replacing a battery. 2 years and less than 40,000 miles?!?! My wife's toyota solara was 5 years old with 75000 miles before it needed a battery.

I'm going to buy a battery at lunch, but I wanted to consult the vast amount of knowledge here first to keep me from chasing my tail.

    Thanks in advance

I wouldn't think so. I had a Honda Accord and the battery went dead at 24,000 miles. It just happens sometimes.

Not sure but at Lexus they give a warranty on the battery... wonder if Toyota does the same thing. Oh just realized that you are JUST out of warranty.

Have you done any mods to it?

You live in Alabama where it is very hot in the summer. Heat is another killer of batteries. I lived in Florida for four years. A friend of mine that has lived there for many years said it was good if you got two years out of a battery living here. My battery went bad 3 months after moving there!

No real mods except for cosmetic stuff. No aftermarket stereo. Sylvania silverstar bulbs are the only electrical mod. Yep, just outta warranty..... Guess its time to put a real battery in it. I was just curious. Thanks

you know what? a cheap radio shack multi-meter would tell you just about everything.

what voltage are you seeing at idle? hmmm. at this point..you dont know if your alt is doing alt-y things.

i think i paid $40 for mine at Sears..i use it all the time i have a battery question..

you could be tossing a perfectly good battery.

A bad voltage regulator (part of the alternator) can fry a battery. By the sounds of it, the battery definitely needs to be replaced (4 mins should NOT completely charge it from drained). Have the alternator tested to make sure it doesn't cook the new one if it happens to be faulty.

If you have broken plates inside the batttery it can show fully charged with no load, then the volts drop off to near zero when it's loaded. A multitester is the best tool to diagnose your problem.

You should have a pro-rated warranty. Take it to the dealership.

I've had my 08 for just under 5 years and am on my third battery :notsure: No aftermarket electrical stuff - just stock batteries. Have an Autozone one now.

The battery in my Camry died @ 4 1/2 years and an Autozone one has been kicking for 8 1/2 years now. Been told for over a year that I need a new one, but this one keeps starting. One day soon....

i did not read all the comments. but i got my ’07 may of last year. with 24,9**k on the clock. not long after it started doing the same, replaced battery and it has not done it since. maybe it’s just a bad battery.

Be sure your battery terminals are clean, corrosion will act exactly this way. Buy a terminal cleaner and clean them reall good, remove from battery posts to clean inside terminals.

My alternator went out at about 25K miles and had to replace it so test that to before you think its just a battery issue.

After replacing the battery, take it to autozone to have the charging system checked for free. A bad alternator will kill a new battery.

make sure the cells have liquid in them. little on no liquid will do this. Batteries can die at any time. The battery had to be replaced on my brothers 2012 civic.

Funny how this thread mentioned an accord and now civic. We have a 2010 civic with a battery that died this past weekend. Only 2 years and 2 months we owned it!

Heat kills batteries, repetitive deep discharge cycles kills batteries, not keeping water topped off (sometimes it vents out when it heats up) within the battery also will prematurly kill it. Excessive vibration as well. Quality of the battery mfg may have also had something to do with it.

It would be worth checking the terminal voltage with a multimeter and see if its in the nominal 12 volt range with the engine off. If its lower than 9 volts, its probably dead. My old mazda eeked out another month or two from a 'dead' battery, but once I let it sit for a week it refused to start.

If you have a separate donar battery to connect in parallel (don't try jumpstarting it!), you can try getting the truck started and observe whether its charging or not, although you would need to run the truck for a whlie and waste gas. Pull the battery and head to autozone to use their battery tester??

At 80 degrees F, if a 12-volt car battery is below 12.06 VDC, it probably will not have enough performance to start a cold engine and below 11.89 VDC it is discharged. A healthy, fully charged battery will measure at least 12.65 VDC after the surface charge is removed. For more information on testing car batteries, please see Section 4. in the Car and Deep Cycle Battery FAQ on www.batteryfaq.org.
